Job description

We are seeking a Senior Power BI Data Engineer to develop and maintain data models, reporting solutions, and data pipelines that support business decision-making. This role will combine Power BI development, advanced DAX, SQL, data modelling, and ETL/ELT while working closely with Finance, Operations, and Sales stakeholders. The successful candidate will also help ensure data quality, governance, and reporting accuracy across the business.

  • Develop and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, datasets, and semantic models using best-practice star-schema modelling.
  • Build advanced DAX and Power Query solutions, including complex calculations, time intelligence, and performance optimisation.
  • Write and optimise SQL queries to extract, transform, validate, and integrate data from multiple business systems.
  • Design and maintain dimensional data models and data warehouse layers, including fact tables, dimension tables, and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Build and support ETL/ELT data pipelines using tools such as Azure Data Factory, dbt, SSIS, or equivalent platforms.
  • Manage Power BI Service and data governance, including workspaces, gateways, row-level security, refresh schedules, data quality, and documentation.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, and Sales stakeholders to translate business requirements into meaningful insights, reporting solutions, and recommendations for senior management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on Power BI experience, covering both Power BI Desktop and Service in a production reporting environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
  • Advanced skills in DAX, Power Query (M), and SQL, with strong experience in complex calculations, transformations, joins, window functions, and stored procedures.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional data modelling, including star schemas, fact/dimension tables, slowly changing dimensions, and data warehouse concepts.
  • Experience with Power BI Service administration, including gateways, row-level security, workspaces, deployments, refreshes, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong analytical, commercial, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain insights to senior non-technical stakeholders and work independently in a remote environment.
  • PL-300 certification preferred, with experience in Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory/Synapse, dbt, SSIS, Python/R, Power Apps/Automate, or Dynamics 365 Business Central considered an advantage.
