Tech Lead (d/f/m) - Data, AI & Platform

Company Description

For our Team Next in the Digital Learning Solutions division, we are looking for a Tech Lead (d/m/f) – Data, AI & Platform at the earliest possible date, based in Freiburg im Breisgau or fully remote from anywhere in Germany.

In our team, we are building a complex data and AI product around our Skills Intelligence – a graph-based data product that structures and makes knowledge about skills actionable. On top of this, our Skill Services and a Developer Platform are built, through which our data and services are made available for a variety of applications.

Job Description

• You own the overall technical architecture, comprising the data product, services, and platform, and ensure the scalability, security, and long-term maintainability of our entire system
• You set the technical direction, create alignment across teams and components, and collaboratively develop the technical roadmap and guardrails with the product team – aligned with the overarching tech strategy and relevant technical stakeholders within the company
• You continuously evolve the data and AI foundation together with our expert team – from graph-based knowledge models and data pipelines to the productive use of LLMs, RAG, and agentic systems
• You shape APIs and platform services, ensuring clear, stable, and scalable interfaces as well as a great developer experience for our customers
• You embed Security, DevOps, and Engineering Excellence into architecture and development processes, and identify technical risks early on
• You work closely with the Business Owner of the product – together you bring business, product, and technology perspectives together, ensuring that strategic ambitions and technical decisions go hand in hand
• You act as a sparring partner and coach for our engineers, facilitate technical decision-making, and strengthen technical ownership and quality

Qualifications

• You have extensive experience in demanding software, data, or platform environments and have already taken on technical responsibility for complex systems
• You think in holistic systems and can evaluate architectural decisions in terms of business impact, scalability, maintainability, and security
• You have experience in the technical leadership of experienced engineers, are able to bring together diverse technical perspectives, and can drive decisions to conclusion
• You are familiar with modern architectures for data-intensive applications, APIs, and platforms, as well as common architecture and design patterns
• You are well-versed in modern cloud and AI technologies – ideally from our stack (e.g. AWS, Amazon Neptune, TypeScript, Serverless Architectures, Terraform and AWS CDK, LLMs, RAG, LangChain, LangGraph, Langfuse, and AgentCore) – and you quickly get up to speed with new tools and concepts
• You bring hands-on experience with data and/or AI products, ideally including LLMs and generative AI in production environments
• You have a solid understanding of Cloud, DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and Security by Design
• You are able to balance technical excellence and long-term scalability with pragmatism and time-to-market
• You communicate clearly and audience-appropriately – from the engineering team to senior leadership
• You have proficient English language skills (minimum C1)
