Job description

About Rhythm Energy

Rhythm is a renewable energy and technology company empowering customers to take control of both their energy costs and environmental footprint. We combine energy market expertise with technology, design, and data science to build products and experiences that are simple, delightful, and seamlessly integrated into everyday life.

Our mission is to redefine the energy experience through innovation, exceptional customer service, and a commitment to building a cleaner, smarter future. We're a mission-driven team of engineers, marketers, designers, product leaders, analysts, and operators who love solving complex problems while making a meaningful impact on the communities we serve.

About the Role

We're hiring an Email Marketing Automation Developer to join Rhythm's Lifecycle Marketing Platform team and help power the customer journeys that drive acquisition, engagement, retention, and winback.

This is a highly hands-on technical role focused on building, maintaining, and troubleshooting email and SMS automations in Iterable. You'll work closely with our Marketing Platform Manager as her primary technical partner, taking ownership of journey execution, template development, quality assurance, and platform operations across multiple Iterable instances.

This isn't a marketing strategy role. We're looking for someone who enjoys getting into the details—building complex automations, troubleshooting technical issues, optimizing deliverability, and ensuring every customer journey works exactly as intended.

As our agency support winds down, you'll play a critical role in bringing this capability fully in-house and helping establish a scalable lifecycle marketing platform.

What You'll Do

Marketing Automation & Journey Development

  • Build, maintain, and optimize email and SMS customer journeys using Iterable's workflow builder.
  • Develop and troubleshoot complex, multi-step automations, including branching logic, wait conditions, audience filters, re-entry rules, and cross-channel messaging.
  • Configure new Iterable projects, sending domains, and sender profiles as needed.
  • Manage audience segmentation, suppression lists, frequency caps, and compliance workflows across multiple Iterable instances.

Template Development & Technical Operations

  • Build and maintain highly dynamic email templates using Handlebars, including conditional logic, loops, data feeds, and fallback handling.
  • Read and modify HTML and CSS to support email template development and troubleshooting.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues such as failed sends, broken triggers, stale drafts, and audience discrepancies without relying on engineering support.
  • Support IP and domain warmup activities by building rollout schedules, monitoring deliverability metrics, and adjusting sending strategies.

Quality Assurance & Platform Support

  • Own campaign QA, including pre-send validation, render testing, link testing, and journey verification.
  • Partner with the Marketing Platform Manager to set up A/B tests and support performance reporting.
  • Support customer surveys, including Qualtrics setup, Iterable distribution, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Document journey logic, campaign configurations, and platform processes to improve consistency and scalability.
  • Provide backup support for data requests, reporting, and platform administration.
  • Help validate lifecycle journeys such as onboarding, winback, sunset, and re-engagement campaigns to ensure customers receive the right communications at the right time.

What You'll Bring

  • 2–3+ years of hands-on experience working with Iterable in a marketing automation or lifecycle marketing role.
  • Strong experience building event-driven customer journeys using behavioral triggers, event properties, audience segmentation, and multi-channel workflows.
  • Advanced knowledge of Handlebars, including conditional logic, loops, data references, and dynamic template development.
  • Comfortable reading and editing HTML and CSS for email templates.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex automation issues independently.
  • Strong attention to detail with a disciplined approach to quality assurance and campaign validation.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive communication style with a willingness to ask questions, surface issues early, and collaborate closely with teammates.

Nice to Have

  • Iterable Certification.
  • Experience with Segment or another Customer Data Platform (CDP).
  • Experience supporting multi-brand or multi-instance marketing automation environments.
  • Basic SQL skills for validating customer data and understanding data feeds.
  • Familiarity with Databricks or modern cloud data platforms.
  • Experience with Qualtrics or similar survey platforms.
  • Experience using Figma to collaborate on email templates or customer journey designs.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 12–18 months, success in this role will look like:

  • Customer journeys are reliable, scalable, and consistently deliver the right message to the right audience.
  • Email and SMS campaigns launch with minimal issues thanks to thorough QA and proactive troubleshooting.
  • Iterable becomes increasingly self-sufficient as capabilities transition in-house from external agency support.
  • Deliverability remains healthy through effective IP warmup, sender reputation management, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Documentation, templates, and operational processes enable the Lifecycle Marketing team to move faster and scale efficiently.
  • The Marketing Platform Manager views you as a trusted technical partner who can independently own platform execution and solve complex automation challenges.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Ownership. Take ownership of the marketing automation platform that powers Rhythm's customer lifecycle communications.
  • Technical depth. Work with complex automations, dynamic templates, deliverability, and customer data—not just campaign execution.
  • Meaningful impact. Help build and scale the systems that support millions of customer interactions throughout their lifecycle.
  • Collaborative culture. Partner closely with Lifecycle Marketing, Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Customer Experience.
  • Professional growth. Expand your expertise in marketing automation, customer data, and lifecycle technology while helping build an in-house platform capability.
  • Remote-first team. Join a collaborative European team with the autonomy and ownership to make a meaningful impact from day one.
