Job description

Making a difference isn’t just our purpose, it’s what motivates our people every day. For us, work is not about ticking a box. It’s about knowing that it matters. We make a meaningful difference every day by making it easier for our customers to focus on what matters in their lives.

At McMillan Shakespeare, we’re modernising systems and redefining how financial services technology delivers value at scale.

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who thrives on ownership, architectural influence, and lifting engineering standards. This is for someone already operating at a senior level who wants to shape the future of our platforms, not just maintain them.

You’ll have proven experience designing solutions, writing high-quality production code, troubleshooting complex technical issues and working across the full software development lifecycle. If you’re passionate about modern architecture, AI-driven solutions and improving BAU systems, this is a high-impact opportunity to make your mark.

Here’s how you will make a difference in this role…

  • Drive technical quality, scalability and security across applications and integrations
  • Lead and uplift engineering standards through mentoring and code reviews
  • Partner with Product, Architecture and Business stakeholders to shape solutions
  • Champion modern engineering practices including CI/CD, observability and automation
  • Contribute to event-driven, cloud-native systems
  • Support production environments and lead incidents

We are deliberately targeting experienced engineers. Please only apply if you meet the majority of the below.

At MMS clear expectations help our people Be the Difference. Your will bring:

  • Strong commercial experience developing and maintaining enterprise applications using C# with .NET / .NET Core.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience writing SQL, including complex queries, stored procedures, joins, data manipulation and SQL performance optimisation.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing, developing and deploying applications using Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Service Bus,
  • Azure Key Vault and Azure API Management. This is specifically an Azure-focused requirement; AWS Functions/serverless experience alone is not sufficient.
  • Practical experience working with Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), ideally including integrating AI/LLM capabilities into software applications and using AI to generate or assist with code in a production environment.
  • Experience with Agentic AI, AI agents and intelligent automation, including using AI to automate business processes, workflows, development tasks or other operational activities. Production experience is highly desirable.

Engineering Mindset

  • You take ownership and drive outcomes
  • You think beyond code—architecture, scalability and business impact
  • You actively mentor others and raise the bar
  • You’re comfortable engaging non-technical stakeholders

What Sets You Apart

  • You’ve improved or modernised legacy/BAU systems, not just built new ones
  • You bring a continuous improvement mindset and challenge the status quo
  • You understand how to balance speed, quality and risk in financial services

What we can offer you:
