Job description

RYZ Labs is looking for a Staff Software Engineer (Elixir) to join one of our client’s teams in the sports merchandising industry!   We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to work across the client’s card technology platform and help connect multiple product and engineering domains. This is a hands-on role focused on building, evolving, and maintaining large-scale systems while driving technical decisions, improving engineering practices, and helping teams work more effectively.   Basic Qualifications: • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience. • Strong proficiency in Elixir and functional programming concepts. • Proven experience building and maintaining production applications with Elixir and Phoenix. • Experience owning and evolving large systems spanning multiple services, repositories, and teams. • Strong understanding of software architecture and experience driving technical decisions across teams. • Experience with Phoenix LiveView is strongly preferred. • Strong PostgreSQL knowledge, including query optimization and performance tuning. • Experience building data ingestion pipelines or ETL processes, particularly from third-party data sources. • Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues, and cross-service data consistency. • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, particularly with complex, numerical, or data-intensive systems. • Experience working with Git, code reviews, automated testing, and collaborative development practices. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence technical direction across teams. • Experience working effectively in highly autonomous and primarily remote environments.   What makes you stand out: • Experience with AWS services such as SQS/SNS, S3, Athena, or Glue. • Experience deploying and operating services on Kubernetes/EKS. • Experience with event sourcing, CQRS, or schema-versioned events such as Protobuf or Avro. • Experience building systems from scratch and later evolving or handing them off to other teams. • A demonstrated track record of being a force multiplier, improving engineering productivity through mentoring, pairing, code reviews, tooling, or technical leadership. • Experience leading through influence rather than formal authority. • Experience diagnosing and resolving complex production issues in systems you did not originally build.   Key Responsibilities: As a Staff Software Engineer, you will work across the platform and product ecosystem, helping ensure systems remain scalable, reliable, and easy for teams to evolve. Your responsibilities will include:   • Owning and evolving complex systems that span multiple teams, services, and repositories. • Driving architecture discussions and facilitating high-impact technical decisions. • Designing, implementing, testing, deploying, and maintaining production systems. • Conducting thorough, high-volume code reviews across repositories to ensure quality, share context, and unblock teams. • Pairing with and mentoring engineers across teams to improve technical capabilities and productivity. • Diagnosing and resolving complex production issues, including algorithmic and data-correctness problems. • Building and maintaining data ingestion pipelines, event-driven services, and cross-service infrastructure. • Breaking down large, ambiguous, cross-team initiatives into well-sequenced projects and tasks. • Improving shared engineering practices and infrastructure, including CI/CD, developer tooling, observability, testing, and security. • Documenting system architecture and creating runbooks to facilitate knowledge sharing and operational excellence. • Collaborating closely with engineering leads and business stakeholders to translate ambiguous problems into effective technical solutions. • Building user-facing features end-to-end when needed, from data models through Phoenix LiveView interfaces.   About RYZ Labs: RYZ Labs is a startup studio built in 2021 by two lifelong entrepreneurs. The founders of RYZ have worked at some of the world's largest tech companies and some of the most iconic consumer brands. They have lived and worked in Argentina for many years and have decades of experience in Latam. They use the latest cutting-edge technologies in cloud computing to create applications that are scalable and resilient. We aim to provide diverse product solutions for different industries, planning to build a large number of startups in the upcoming years.   At RYZ, you will find yourself working with autonomy and efficiency, owning every step of your development. We provide an environment of opportunities, learning, growth, expansion and challenging projects. You will deepen your experience while sharing and learning from a team of great professionals and specialists.   Our values and what to expect:Customer First Mentality - every decision we make should be made through the lens of the customer. • Bias for Action - urgency is critical, expect that the timeline to get something done is accelerated. • Ownership - step up if you see an opportunity to help, even if not your core responsibility. • Humility and Respect - be willing to learn, be vulnerable, and treat everyone that interacts with RYZ with respect. • Frugality - being frugal and cost-conscious helps us do more with less. • Deliver Impact - get things done in the most efficient way. • Raise Our Standards - always be looking to improve our processes, our team, our expectations.
