Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced content marketing professionals with hands-on expertise in editorial strategy, content research, production, optimisation, analytics, and quality assurance.

This role focuses on designing and evaluating realistic content marketing environments that reflect the tools, workflows, data, and judgement calls encountered in professional marketing teams. Selected experts will create authentic scenarios, define expected outcomes, review completed work, and establish standards that distinguish strong content marketing judgement from plausible but ineffective approaches.

Key Responsibilities

Content Marketing Scenario Design

  • Develop realistic tasks based on content marketing work you have personally performed
  • Define the underlying marketing issue and the decision a strong practitioner should reach
  • Create scenarios involving incomplete, conflicting, or messy information
  • Ensure tasks require genuine professional judgement rather than simple information retrieval
  • Design challenges that reflect real-world editorial and content marketing workflows

Content Research & Discovery

  • Develop and evaluate scenarios involving topic research and content discovery
  • Review audience, competitor, search, and performance information
  • Assess whether research supports proposed content opportunities
  • Identify weak assumptions, overlooked evidence, or poorly supported recommendations
  • Evaluate research findings for relevance and practical usefulness

Editorial Strategy & Prioritisation

  • Review content calendars, editorial plans, and prioritisation decisions
  • Assess topic selection against audience needs and marketing objectives
  • Evaluate trade-offs between competing content opportunities
  • Identify gaps in editorial coverage or ineffective prioritisation
  • Apply hands-on judgement from managing end-to-end editorial programmes

Content Production

  • Develop and assess workflows involving creation and publication of marketing content
  • Review briefs, drafts, supporting research, and production requirements
  • Evaluate whether content appropriately reflects its intended audience and objective
  • Identify gaps affecting clarity, usefulness, consistency, or execution
  • Assess proposed production approaches for practical feasibility

Content QA & Audit

  • Review existing content for accuracy, consistency, relevance, and quality
  • Identify outdated, duplicated, incomplete, or underperforming content
  • Evaluate whether materials meet established editorial standards
  • Assess recommendations for updating, consolidating, improving, or retiring content
  • Review content portfolios for quality and strategic coherence

SEO & Content Performance

  • Evaluate content opportunities using search and performance data
  • Review keyword, competitor, traffic, and audience information where relevant
  • Assess whether proposed optimisation decisions are supported by available evidence
  • Identify misleading interpretations or missed opportunities
  • Evaluate recommendations using practical content marketing judgement

CMS & Marketing Analytics

  • Work with workflows modelled on a CMS such as Contentful
  • Review performance information using Google Analytics 4
  • Work with research and search tools such as Semrush
  • Assess content performance across relevant dashboards and data sources
  • Reconcile information across publishing, analytics, and research systems

Marketing Systems & Workflows

  • Work with simulated environments containing realistic email, storage, CRM, project management, social media management, web analytics, SEO/AEO, advertising, CMS, product analytics, and customer-support information
  • Specify the documents, dashboards, personas, and tool states required for authentic content marketing scenarios
  • Evaluate multi-step workflows spanning several marketing systems
  • Identify missed dependencies, inconsistencies, or execution failures
  • Assess whether proposed actions appropriately reflect available information

Reference Answers & Evaluation Criteria

  • Write or review reference solutions for content marketing scenarios
  • Define clear criteria separating strong professional responses from plausible but incorrect ones
  • Establish standards for research, prioritisation, production, QA, and content judgement
  • Explain why particular decisions are stronger or weaker
  • Ensure evaluation criteria reflect realistic content marketing practice

Quality Review & Evaluation

  • Review completed scenarios and evaluate proposed content marketing decisions
  • Assess diagnostic reasoning, prioritisation, trade-offs, planning, execution, and reporting
  • Evaluate work spanning multiple marketing tools and information sources
  • Identify missed issues, incorrect interpretations, or weak recommendations
  • Provide clear written reasoning supporting evaluation decisions

Ideal Profile

  • Hands-on professional experience in content marketing
  • Experience personally owning an editorial programme end to end, rather than solely managing teams responsible for execution
  • Strong understanding of content research, editorial strategy, production, optimisation, QA, and content auditing
  • Comfortable working with a CMS such as Contentful
  • Experience interpreting performance data through Google Analytics 4
  • Comfortable using research and SEO tools such as Semrush
  • Strong ability to prioritise content opportunities using research and performance information
  • Clear written reasoning and ability to explain why a content decision is effective or ineffective
  • Prior experience developing AI training environments, reinforcement-learning environments, or simulated business case studies is strongly preferred
  • Rubric Academy or Rubric Bootcamp certification is strongly preferred
  • Comfortable working independently with structured evaluation frameworks and project guidelines

Engagement Details

  • Part-time independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Flexible scheduling based on project requirements
  • Compensation: $50–$90/hour
  • Work focuses on content marketing strategy, editorial planning, content production, performance analysis, quality assurance, scenario design, and expert evaluation
  • Applicants complete a short multiple-choice knowledge assessment specific to content marketing before review
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performance
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
  • H1-B and STEM OPT support is unavailable for this engagement
