Description:

CTG is seeking to fill a Mainframe COBOL/IMS Developer position for our client.

Location: Remote

Duration: 6 months

Duties:

  • Develop, maintain, enhance, troubleshoot, and provide production support for mainframe applications supporting batch payment processing, voucher payments, and financial reporting systems.

  • Design and modify COBOL programs utilizing IMS DB and MQ technologies.

  • Upgrade and enhance MQ COBOL programs and support MQ server migration initiatives.

  • Reverse engineer complex legacy applications, including COBOL and IMS systems with limited or unavailable source code.

  • Support and enhance ETBS MQ programs and integrations with WMIS and Workday.

  • Analyze existing applications to identify and document business rules, business logic, system dependencies, and processing workflows.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical and process documentation.

  • Migrate legacy application code into modern source-code repositories and development environments.

  • Perform IMS development and administration activities, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and performance support.

  • Collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders, and other project resources to resolve production issues and implement system enhancements.

  • Participate in testing, deployment, and implementation activities while ensuring application stability and adherence to established standards.

Skills:

  • Strong COBOL programming skills.

  • Extensive experience with IMS DB development and administration.

  • Strong IBM MQ expertise, including MQ COBOL programming and integrations.

  • Experience with batch processing, payment systems, voucher processing, and financial reporting applications.

  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and production support skills.

  • Ability to reverse engineer legacy applications and extract business rules from existing code and system behavior.

  • Experience working with systems where source code may be incomplete or unavailable.

  • Strong technical documentation and business logic documentation skills.

  • Experience with legacy code migration to modern code repositories.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of Mainframe programming experience.

  • 10+ years of experience working with COBOL-based mainframe applications.

  • Extensive hands-on experience with IMS DB and IBM MQ.

  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, deploying, and supporting mission-critical mainframe applications in production environments.

  • Experience upgrading and modifying MQ COBOL programs and supporting MQ server migrations.

  • Experience supporting ETBS MQ programs and integrations with WMIS and Workday.

  • Experience reverse engineering legacy COBOL/IMS applications, including applications with limited or no available source code.

  • Experience documenting business rules, technical processes, application logic, and system workflows.

  • Experience migrating legacy code into modern source-code repositories.

  • Strong IMS administration and development experience.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent education and relevant professional experience may be considered.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $50.00 to $60.00/hour. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. In addition to salary, a competitive benefit package is also offered.
