Job description

A Day in the Life of a Data Analytics Engineer at MetLife Legal Plans:

 

MetLife Legal Plans is seeking a Data Engineer to join our Data Insights team, reporting to the Senior Director of Data Insights. In this role, you will help modernize and scale our data platform by designing and building robust data models, pipelines, and analytics solutions using DBT Cloud, AWS, Python, and SQL. You will partner closely with Data Analysts and business stakeholders to transform complex data into trusted, actionable insights that support data-driven decision-making across the organization. The ideal candidate is a curious problem solver with strong technical expertise in data engineering, cloud technologies, and data modeling who enjoys uncovering answers to complex business questions and driving continuous improvement through data.

 


Duties include:


  • Model and build data structures using DBT Cloud to modernize our data platform
  • Utilize DBT Cloud to transform raw data into business focus, semantic layer for data analysis and insights
  • Work with Data Analysts to design data models and data structures to empower self-service analytics
  • Data analysis, such as research into data issues and communication of findings
  • Building data driven solutions to business problems and opportunities
  • Business process optimization and defining core business logic
  • Ensuring data security is enforced within data models and data structures


You should be familiar with hunting for answers to complex business questions and running experiments to gather additional data when necessary. 

You should feel comfortable using a product suite of DBT Cloud, GitHub, Visual Studio Code, Python, and Tableau desktop/server to create and manage data pipelines.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience using DBT Cloud.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Bash, and experience with Spark.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, Glue, and Redshift.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with data modeling and schema design.
  • 1+ years of experience with workflow management tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and data security best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Familiarity with Tableau
  • Experience with Terraform or other IaaC, Kubernetes Cluster, IBM I DB2, AWS CLI (Command Line Interface)
  • Integration experience with: Delighted, Zendesk, Salesforce, AWS Aurora Databases
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university

Travel:

  • Up to 5% travel
