Job description

HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT


As a Product Manager you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping advance the goals of USGBC. The Product Manager is responsible for driving the strategy, development, and optimization of USGBC’s zero waste products and services, with a primary focus on TRUE and its related sub products and offerings.


This role focuses on ensuring that TRUE is strategically positioned, actively managed throughout its lifecycle, and continuously optimized to deliver customer value, strengthen market leadership, and advance USGBC’s mission and impact.


The Product Manager may manage one or more junior staff and will engage with internal team members, external stakeholders, and supervise contractors. 



Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy, Development, and Delivery

  • Define, manage, and advance a clear and compelling product vision and strategy.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive product plans and roadmaps that span active development, maintenance, optimization, and retirement phases.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure execution of the product plan. 
  • Collect, synthesize, and prioritize customer, staff, and market inputs to inform product decisions across the portfolio.
  • Act as a user and customer advocate, representing customer goals, pain points, and use cases.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure products meet business, customer, and mission objectives. 
  • Work with Product Owners and delivery teams on planning, prioritization, testing, release, and maintenance activities as needed.


Product Lifecycle Management

  • Actively manage assigned products across their full lifecycle, including products not in active development, ensuring they remain relevant and competitive. 
  • Monitor and analyze product data to identify opportunities to increase revenue, market impact, and customer satisfaction. 
  • Define and monitor product goals and success measures, and regularly report on progress, risks, and performance for assigned products.
  • Partner with finance, sales, and other team to define pricing strategy, packaging, and revisions over time. 
  • Identify opportunities to improve sales effectiveness through sales enablement resources, guidance, and training. Help to ensure internal teams are equipped to support products. 
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation across the portfolio performance product suite to respond to evolving market, regulatory, and customer needs. 


Market Intelligence, Positioning, and Go-to-Market Support

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of target customer segments, including needs, pain points, motivations, and decision drivers.
  • Monitor and analyze market trends, policy and regulatory drivers, and competition to inform product strategy, positioning, and prioritization. 
  • Create and maintain product management artifacts, including target customer definitions, value propositions, benefit statements, and more.
  • Work closely with market facing staff to inform messaging, campaigns, and go to market approaches, ensuring they accurately reflect product value for target markets.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


Experience 

  • 5-7 years of relevant product management experience 
  • Familiarity with USGBC and GBCI mission, internal operations, and stakeholders 
  • Professional experience in sustainable resource management and understanding of zero waste concepts and practices and/or knowledge of the TRUE rating system 
  • >7 years of product or program management experience in green building, commercial real estate, zero waste, or equivalent areas (preferred)


Education

  • Bachelor's degree (required)
  • Advanced degree (preferred)



Technology/System(s)

  • Demonstrated skills with Microsoft tools and one or more project/product management systems (e.g., JIRA, Notion, ProductPlan, etc.)

  • The ability to communicate complex issues effectively with peers, senior leadership, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage and build consensus across various levels of leaders in a matrixed organization through collaboration and influence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff.


Certifications

  • LEED GA or AP accreditation or TRUE Advisor Preferred

Salary 

Final compensation and benefits will be confirmed at the time of offer and may vary based on factors such as internal equity, relevant experience, qualifications, and employment status. Please note that salary negotiations will not extend beyond the top of the internal salary range.

  • Generous paid time off (12 paid holidays, 9 paid personal sick days and based on career level either 2 to 3 weeks PTO), including operations closed for a full week between Christmas and New Year’s
  • 6 weeks paid renewal leave after 7 years of continuous service

Location: This position is remote in USA

 

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern 


Travel %: 10%
