Enterprise Systems Engineer III

Role Summary (The Why Now)

Avalara is scaling its Workday ecosystem to support an evolving global workforce and an AI-first operating model. This role exists to design and deliver a modern, scalable integration architecture that enables accurate, secure, and real-time data exchange across HR, Payroll, Finance, and enterprise systems.

This engineer will play a critical role in executing the 2026 integration roadmap while transforming how integrations operate through AI-driven automation, improving reliability, speed, and data quality at scale.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of scalable, secure Workday integrations that support critical business workflows across HR, Payroll, and enterprise systems
• Improve integration reliability and performance through proactive monitoring, error handling, and optimization
• Translate business requirements into resilient technical solutions that scale with organizational growth
• Drive modernization of the integration ecosystem by leveraging cloud platforms and reusable architecture patterns
• Ensure high-quality releases through rigorous testing, validation, and deployment standards
• Strengthen governance by maintaining clear documentation, auditability, and compliance controls
• Partner cross-functionally to ensure integrations enable business outcomes, not just system connectivity

• Delivered key components of the 2026 Workday integration roadmap on time with measurable improvements in system reliability and data accuracy
• Reduced integration failures and manual intervention through automation and improved error handling
• Established scalable integration patterns reused across multiple business-critical workflows
• Improved time-to-deploy for new integrations through better tooling, design, and documentation
• Demonstrated measurable efficiency gains through AI-driven automation (e.g., reduced manual reconciliation, faster issue resolution)

• Apply AI to automate validation, reconciliation, and anomaly detection in integration workflows
• Use AI to reduce manual effort in error handling, monitoring, and data quality checks
• Identify and implement AI-driven improvements that increase integration speed, accuracy, and scalability
• Leverage AI tools to accelerate development, testing, and documentation of integrations
• Share AI best practices and elevate team capability in applying AI to integration engineering

This role is expected to raise the bar by improving integration quality, scalability, and automation standards across the team. You demonstrate strong ownership, sound technical judgment, and consistently deliver measurable business outcomes while elevating those around you.

You go beyond basic AI usage by applying AI to materially improve integration performance, reliability, and efficiency. You quantify impact, apply AI responsibly, and help scale AI adoption across the team

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Workday integration tools (Workday Studio, Core Connectors, EIB, PECI, WWS)
• Strong expertise in XML, XSLT, XPATH, SOAP, REST APIs
• Deep understanding of Workday HCM data model and business processes
• Experience integrating Workday with enterprise systems across cloud environments (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS)
• B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
