Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for Korean music professionals with experience in songwriting, lyric writing, composition, performance, or music journalism and strong knowledge of the contemporary Korean music landscape.

This role focuses on evaluating generated music and lyrics in Korean and English. Selected experts will assess lyrical quality, creativity, originality, linguistic naturalness, and alignment with detailed project criteria while applying practical knowledge of Korean music, culture, slang, and regional expression.

Key Responsibilities

Korean Lyrics Evaluation

  • Review Korean-language lyrics for overall quality, creativity, coherence, and originality
  • Assess whether lyrics sound natural to native or near-native Korean speakers
  • Evaluate word choice, phrasing, idiomatic usage, slang, and regional expressions
  • Identify awkward, unnatural, or culturally inappropriate language
  • Apply professional musical and lyrical judgement across different genres and styles

Originality & Similarity Review

  • Compare generated lyrics with published songs to identify meaningful similarities
  • Assess whether lyrical ideas, phrases, structures, or patterns appear overly derivative
  • Distinguish common genre conventions from potentially significant similarities
  • Evaluate originality within the context of contemporary Korean music
  • Document relevant observations clearly and consistently

Prompt & Creative Alignment

  • Assess how effectively lyrics respond to the requested theme, style, mood, or creative direction
  • Review whether generated material follows the stated instructions
  • Evaluate consistency between intended genre and lyrical execution
  • Identify deviations from requested content, tone, or format
  • Assess whether creative choices feel intentional and musically appropriate

Music & Cultural Context

  • Apply knowledge of Korean contemporary music, genres, sub-genres, and artists
  • Evaluate language and creative choices within their appropriate cultural context
  • Assess whether stylistic elements are credible for the intended audience or genre
  • Recognise contemporary conventions and evolving language within Korean music
  • Identify cultural or linguistic issues that may not be apparent from literal translation alone

Comparative Quality Assessment

  • Compare alternative lyrical or musical outputs against detailed quality standards
  • Evaluate differences in creativity, naturalness, originality, and prompt adherence
  • Distinguish substantive quality issues from subjective stylistic preferences
  • Apply evaluation criteria consistently across assignments
  • Provide clear reasoning for scoring and preference decisions

Structured Feedback

  • Produce concise written assessments of reviewed material
  • Clearly identify strengths, weaknesses, and specific quality issues
  • Support evaluations with concrete observations from the content
  • Follow detailed project instructions and evaluation standards
  • Maintain consistency and attention to detail across repeated reviews

Ideal Profile

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Korean
  • Ability to follow detailed written instructions in English
  • Professional experience as a songwriter, lyricist, composer, performer, music journalist, or closely related music professional
  • Strong knowledge of the Korean music scene, including contemporary genres, sub-genres, and artists
  • Strong understanding of natural Korean word choice, slang, idiomatic language, and regional expression
  • Ability to evaluate lyrical creativity, originality, and stylistic quality
  • Headphones or studio monitors suitable for critical listening
  • Formal training in music performance, theory, or composition is advantageous
  • Credited or published songwriting work is highly valued
  • Broad familiarity with contemporary Korean music is advantageous

Engagement Details

  • Part-time independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Flexible commitment, with many contributors working approximately 20 hours per week
  • No stated maximum weekly-hour limit
