The Role

As Director, Mainframe CICS/MVS Performance & Capacity, you will provide technical leadership for performance engineering, scalability, resiliency, and capacity management across Fidelity's IBM z/OS platform. This role is responsible for analyzing and optimizing complex online and batch workloads spanning CICS, MQ, WAS, DB2, VSAM, storage, network, and cloud-to-mainframe integration environments.

You will lead performance analysis, capacity forecasting, stress-test assessments, modernization measurement, and production readiness reviews to ensure platform stability and business continuity. Partnering across application, infrastructure, architecture, and vendor teams, you will evaluate the impact of technology changes on workload behavior and develop recommendations that balance customer experience, resiliency, operational simplicity, and cost.

As a hands-on technical leader, you will guide high-severity incident investigations, performance reviews, and strategic initiatives while translating complex technical findings into meaningful insights and recommendations for senior leadership.

The Expertise & Skills You Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in IBM z/OS environments with deep expertise in CICS, MVS/zOS performance engineering, capacity planning, systems programming, middleware, or infrastructure engineering.

  • Strong knowledge of CICS transaction processing, region behavior, response-time analysis, workload management, transaction attribution, VSAM access patterns, and interactions with DB2, MQ, WAS, and batch processing environments.

  • Deep understanding of IBM z/OS, Parallel Sysplex, WLM, PR/SM, LPAR configuration, GP/zIIP optimization, storage management, JES/batch processing, DASD/FICON, and platform resiliency.

  • Experience using SMF, RMF, CICS performance data, and tools such as IntelliMagic, SYSVIEW, OMEGAMON, Strobe, MXG/SAS, Grafana, Power BI, SQL, Python, R, or equivalent platforms to analyze and optimize system performance.

  • Proven ability to develop capacity forecasts and workload models that align business growth, transaction volumes, modernization initiatives, and infrastructure demand with future platform requirements.

  • Experience leading performance governance, incident management, root-cause analysis, change management, and production support within large-scale, mission-critical environments.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes across application, middleware, operating system, storage, network, and infrastructure layers.

  • Proven leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence technical and business stakeholders, translate complex findings into executive-level recommendations, and mentor engineering teams.

The Team

The Mainframe Capacity & Performance team is responsible for performance engineering, capacity planning, forecasting, monitoring, and configuration optimization across Fidelity's enterprise IBM z Systems environment. The team partners closely with Mainframe Hosting, CICS, DBMS, MQ, Storage, Network, Application Development, Architecture, and key technology vendors to ensure the reliability, scalability, and resiliency of critical business applications and infrastructure.

Together, we provide the technical expertise, performance insights, and strategic guidance necessary to support business growth, major modernization initiatives, and operational excellence across the enterprise.
