Job Description:

Note: Fidelity will not provide immigration sponsorship for this position.

The Role

As Director, Mainframe DB2 Performance & Capacity, you will provide technical leadership for DB2 for z/OS performance, scalability, resiliency, and capacity management across Fidelity's mission-critical mainframe platforms. You will lead performance analysis, forecasting, tuning, and optimization efforts for complex workloads spanning CICS, batch, DDF/JDBC, replication, and modernization initiatives.

This role is responsible for evaluating the impact of application, infrastructure, and platform changes on DB2 workload behavior; developing capacity models and growth projections; and driving recommendations that balance customer experience, resiliency, performance, and cost. You will partner closely with application, infrastructure, architecture, and vendor teams to assess production readiness, stress testing, failover capabilities, and modernization outcomes.

As a hands-on technical leader, you will guide incident analysis, performance investigations, and strategic initiatives while translating complex technical findings into actionable insights and recommendations for senior leadership.

The Expertise & Skills You Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in IBM z/OS environments with deep expertise in DB2 for z/OS performance, capacity management, database engineering, systems programming, or infrastructure engineering.

  • Strong knowledge of DB2 architecture, DDF/DBAT processing, SQL performance, access path analysis, buffer pools, storage management, workload concurrency, and subsystem tuning.

  • Experience analyzing DB2 and mainframe performance data using SMF, RMF, DB2 statistics and accounting records, and industry tools such as IntelliMagic, SYSVIEW, OMEGAMON, Strobe, MXG/SAS, Grafana, Power BI, or equivalent.

  • Expertise in capacity planning, workload forecasting, business event readiness, stress testing, modernization measurement, and performance governance.

  • Strong understanding of IBM z/OS, Parallel Sysplex, WLM, PR/SM, zIIP optimization, storage, networking, and infrastructure components that influence DB2 performance and resiliency.

  • Experience supporting large-scale, high-volume, mission-critical environments and leading cross-functional analysis involving application, DBMS, CICS, MQ, storage, network, replication, and cloud integration teams.

  • Proven ability to drive root-cause analysis, influence technical decisions, and communicate complex performance and capacity findings to both technical and executive audiences.

  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to build trusted partnerships across engineering, operations, architecture, business, and vendor organizations.

The Team

The Mainframe Capacity & Performance team is responsible for performance engineering, capacity planning, forecasting, monitoring, and configuration optimization across Fidelity's enterprise IBM z Systems environment. The team partners closely with Mainframe Hosting, DBMS, CICS, MQ, Storage, Network, Application Development, Architecture, and key technology vendors to ensure the reliability, scalability, and resiliency of critical business applications and infrastructure. Together, we provide the insights and technical leadership necessary to support business growth, modernization initiatives, and operational excellence across the enterprise.
