We are seeking a Consultant, Scrum Master to strengthen delivery discipline, execution transparency, and collaboration across Product, Engineering, and Delivery. This role will use Jira/Planview, capacity data, flow metrics, and quality signals to improve predictability; apply strong SDLC, DevOps, CI/CD, testing, and release-flow knowledge; ensure accurate portfolio status reporting; coach teams toward ownership and continuous improvement; and facilitate productive ceremonies and constructive conflict resolution. Success will include stable delivery cadence, reliable reporting, earlier risk and dependency management, and strong partnerships with the Delivery Project Manager, Product Owner, and engineering leaders.

  • Removes impediments to the team’s progress; communicates obstacles requiring outside resolution to the partners.

  • Identifies risks and issues that might have an impact on delivery and facilitates a mitigation strategy for risks.

  • Collaborates with partners to prioritize the backlog to maximize value and create clarity on the team activities.

  • Collaborates with the agile technology team to provide guidance to the team in the areas of analysis, design, development and testing, and ensures that standard methodologies are used.

  • Guides and enables automation, software engineering practices, such as DevSecOps, to improve quality, productivity, efficiency and consistency of processes and product

  • Monitors team metrics, such as time to market (speed), quality and productivity and progress using historical data, observations and experiences to achieve team goals and commitments; leads the team to deliver high-quality solutions. 

  • Improves team delivery capabilities continuously by adopting Nationwide Agile Practices, collaborating and coaching.

  • Provides a technical voice on the team to challenge decisions such as design approach, estimates, etc.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

It is our intention to fill this role in Columbus, Ohio. The team comes into the office for collaboration twice a week on Mondays and Tuesdays. However, on occasion, applications from internal candidates working remotely who bring critical industry skills and relevant experience may be considered.

This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization.  Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Technology Manager/Director. 

Typical Skills and Experiences: 

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, mathematics or related field is preferred. 

Experience: Six years of experience in programming and systems analysis. Project management experience is preferred. 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Ability to champion agile delivery over fixed practices, flexibility over rigidity, coaching, empowerment and influence over dictation and automation over manual processes. Confirmed knowledge in software development. Proven software engineering expertise using Lean, agile and DevSecOps principles. Thorough understanding of agile technology frameworks and software engineering practices. Consistent record of optimally leading, empowering and building engaged teams. Experience developing and maintaining strong business partnerships. Effective communication skills. Demonstrated problem-solving skills and decision-making skills. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus. 

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Associates may have on-call responsibility after normal working hours and/or on weekends.

The national salary range for Consultant, Scrum Master : $118,000.00-$222,000.00

The expected starting salary range for Consultant, Scrum Master : $118,000.00 - $178,000.00
