Overview:

The GitHub Security Products team is on a mission to secure the world’s software. We’re building tools that make it easy to find, fix, and prevent code vulnerabilities and credential leaks, deploying them to millions of developers. Every day, developers unintentionally commit secrets into their repositories. Without intervention, this can cause damaging privacy and monetary losses. We’re solving that. 

 

As a software engineer at GitHub, you will enhance the collaboration experience at GitHub by working closely with a community of engineers and designers with a distributed, diverse, and passionate team delivering the services that millions of developers depend on. In this role, you will design, prototype, implement, ship, and support highly performant and inspiring user experiences with your team.

Responsibilities:
  • Write, review, and maintain clean, high-quality code primarily in Ruby, Go, and JavaScript.

  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to understand problems, explore solutions, and build new features. 

  • Ship small features and bug fixes regularly, taking on larger and more complex work as you grow in the role.

  • Participate in technical discussions, planning, and code reviews, sharing your ideas and giving thoughtful feedback to teammates. 

  • Learn and follow the team’s engineering practices, while helping improve the quality, reliability, and maintainability of the systems you work on. 

  • Help build and maintain APIs, automated tests, and CI/CD pipelines that support reliable software delivery. 

  • Participate in on-call and first responder rotations, helping investigate and resolve production issues. 

  • Work with support teams and other partners to investigate, triage, and debug technical support requests.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • 1+ year(s) experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience maintaining production software in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python 

    • OR Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field 

    • OR equivalent experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building user-facing web applications with modern web technologies

  • Experience using general purpose programming languages (e.g., Go, Ruby, or similar language).
Compensation Range: The base salary range for this job is USD $69,000.00 - USD $182,900.00 /Yr.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.

This position will be open for a minimum of 3 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
