Our diverse team of experts covers all marketing mix elements, from brand strategy and social media to performance and web development and beyond. With over 100 brands under our belt, our Brand Hackers have a treasure trove of shared experiences. This wealth of knowledge fuels our creativity and gives us the edge.
Weβre 4 years old and have grown from just 2 of us to 25+ people with knock-out case studies weβre really proud of and a serious growing reputation (even if we say so ourselves).
Beyond FMCG, we're building iconic challenger brands across Beauty, Luxury, Film, and more working with big challengers like Tonyβs Chocolonely and emerging hot startups like Seep. From customer insights and brand strategy to campaign planning and comms strategy, our team tackles a wide range of briefs.
You can read lots more about what we do on our website.
We're building a bench of exceptional freelance Copywriters to plug into projects as briefs land.
In our world, copy isn't just what happens once the strategy's locked. Sometimes you're building the tone of voice and verbal identity hand-in-hand with the strategic foundation, or turning a rough idea into words a founder can get inspired by. Other times the voice is already set, and you're producing the writing that is a true and delightful representation of the brand.
This can be verbal identity work, copy execution work, or both, depending on the project. This is not a "make it sound nice" role. It's about understanding what a brand stands for well enough to write things that are distinctive, on brand and built to work in the real world, not just the deck.
Develop tone of voice and verbal identity guidelines, whether it's a rebrand or a brand from scratch
Write paid ad copy and social captions across multiple brands and formats
Write campaign copy from the brief through to the final deliverable
Write trade marketing copy, including pack copy, shelf talkers, sell sheets and retailer assets
Write reports, presentations and pitch decks that make people actually want to read them
Work within tone of voice guidelines and help maintain consistency across all touchpoints
Manage your own time and deadlines across multiple brands simultaneously
Bring a point of view - we want writers who care, not just getting it done
A solid grasp of core copywriting principles - rhythm, clarity, structure and tone - and an understanding of why they matter
Confident writing directly in a brand's tone of voice and style guide, not defaulting to generic copy
The ability (and desire) to flex your skills, from brand development through to detailed campaign execution
Working knowledge of writing to space and format constraints - headlines, pack copy, OOH, character limits - where every word has to earn its place
A sharp eye for editing - your own work and other people's
Comfortable turning a rough brief into strong first-draft copy fast, without waiting for the perfect brief
A portfolio that demonstrates genuine strategic thinking, not just polished sentences
The humility to take feedback and the confidence to push back when you're right
Flexible freelance work that fits around your schedule
Support from a lead Brand Hacker who's got your back
Access to tools, templates and a wider crew of Brand Hackers
Membership to Up World while you work with us
