Job description

About Us:

A proud member of the Quanta Services family of companies, Ampacity, LLC (Ampacity) delivers a forward-thinking approach to structural and electrical solutions for clean energy transition projects. From design, kitting, and installation to comprehensive electrical procurement, Ampacity specializes in expert-engineered, field-ready solutions that accelerate project timelines and maximize impact. Made up of more than 350 passionate professionals committed to simplifying complexity across the energy value chain, Ampacity empowers customers to build smarter, faster, and more efficientlyΒβ€”with the most reliable technology in the industry. Headquartered in California, Ampacity maintains facilities in Mississippi, Kentucky, and Iowa, with offices in Florida, Georgia, and Vermont. Since 2014, Ampacity has delivered nearly eight gigawatts of fully engineered clean energy systems across North America.

About this Role:

Ampacity is building out a full electrical distribution offering - cable, grounding, conduit, terminations, and everything else needed for a kitted EBOS solution - and we need a Design Engineer to help lead it.

You'll independently design, review, and sign off on electrical deliverables for live utility-scale solar projects: sizing MV cable and collection systems, building BOM packages, leading design reviews. You'll work directly with our PE-licensed Electrical Engineering Manager, with real ownership from day one - not just execution under close supervision.

If you want to shape how a growing company builds its design processes and tooling, not just draft to spec, this is that role.

Pay Range: $90,000-$100,000

What You'll Do:
  • Independently review electrical drawings and develop BOM packages for utility-scale solar EBOS projects, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Lead design reviews using internal checklists and quality processes, with authority to sign off on deliverables
  • Size and select MV cable, harnesses, and collection system components with minimal oversight
  • Apply relevant codes and standards (NEC 690/691, NABCEP) to project-specific design decisions
  • Serve as a key point of contact for customers and 3rd party engineering teams, translating project needs into clear electrical designs and take-offs
  • Collaborate with the structural design team to drive coordinated value engineering across electrical and structural scopes
  • Contribute to internal design tools and standardized processes (e.g., the team's BOM tool, PVFarm) and help mentor junior team members as the department grows
  • This role will evolve over time with the needs of the business.
What You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 3-5 years of electrical design experience, with direct utility-scale solar experience required
  • Working knowledge of BOS components (cable, harnesses, combiners) and relevant NEC articles (690, 691)
  • Track record developing accurate BOMs and collaborating across structural/interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and written/verbal communication
  • Proficient in Excel; comfortable picking up new internal tools
  • Able to work independently and own deliverables with minimal oversight

Preferred

  • AutoCAD, PVFarm, or similar drafting/design tool experience
  • EIT or PE licensure, or active pursuit
  • Scripting experience (Python, etc.) to support internal tool development
  • Background at a distributor, EPC, or developer in solar EBOS
What You'll Get:

πŸ’° Competitive Total Compensation Industry-leading salary plus 401k for eligible employees

πŸ–οΈ Time Off That Matters Paid vacation, sick days, holidays, parental leave, and bereavement leave

βš–οΈ True Work-Life Balance Health resources and wellness support to help you thrive inside and outside of work

πŸ₯ Comprehensive Health Coverage Medical, dental, and vision insurance plus additional health assistance

πŸ“ˆ Career Growth Opportunities Internal promotion priority with training and skills development programs

🀝 People-First Culture Diverse, inclusive environment where you're valued as a whole person

Compensation Range: The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $90,000.00/Yr. - USD $100,000.00/Yr. depending on experience and qualifications. Equal Opportunity Employer:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, sex (including gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, and/or gender identity), age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, and/or any other basis protected by applicable federal, state or local law.
