Job description

Overview:

The Manager, Software Development is the head of engineering for our next-generation tolling and intelligent transportation platform, leading the team that designs, builds, and delivers it. This player-coach role combines people leadership with technical depth: the Manager owns the software development life cycle (SDLC) and engineering execution against the product roadmap, and partners closely with product leadership to deliver high-quality software on time and on budget. The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills and is able to work across multiple concurrent workstreams.

Responsibilities:

This position includes the following duties. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Manage and continuously improve the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process — planning, estimation, development, code review, testing, release, and maintenance.
  • Set and measure quarterly goals for direct reports.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for direct reports' career development and advancement.
  • Conduct performance reviews.
  • Hire, develop, and retain engineers; foster an engineering culture of ownership, peer review, and continuous improvement.
  • Own engineering capacity planning and staffing against the product roadmap, in partnership with product leadership.
  • Provide technical leadership on the product's core development initiatives — a cloud-native, event-driven microservices platform (services in a modern strongly typed language such as Rust or Go; TypeScript front ends; GraphQL APIs; Kubernetes-based deployment).
  • Participate in proposal development with specific focus on the technical response sections.
  • Coordinate with application services and support teams on systems support transition.
  • Partner with QA leadership on quality strategy and process improvement.
  • Coordinate release management and maintenance activities with operations and maintenance leads.

Will report to the Senior Director, Zentrik Product.

This list of responsibilities might not cover everything you'll end up doing.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree desired.
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience leading software development teams.
  • 10+ years of software development experience, including SDLC management.
  • Strong track record of delivering projects on-time and on-budget.
  • Strong technical background in web application development and distributed/cloud systems; familiarity with modern stacks (e.g., Rust or Go services, TypeScript front ends, Kubernetes, event-driven architectures) strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven problem solving skills.
  • Thrives in a dynamic, multi-tasking environment.
  • Decisive.
  • Positive, proven leadership attitude is a must.
  • Project management skills are preferred.
  • Experience in tolling, intelligent transportation systems, payments, or other mission-critical transaction systems is a plus.
Benefits:

We offer a Total Rewards plan designed with you and your family’s health and wellness in mind that includes:

  • Paid days off (i.e. vacation, sick days, bereavement leave)
  • Health and Dental plans
  • Retirement plans
