Job description

The Permanent Northeast Floater provides experienced claims support across New York and New England, assuming temporary responsibility for diverse caseloads and clients as business needs arise.  This role manages complex and high-visibility workers’ compensation claims within delegated authority, determines benefits due, works closely with case managers and attorneys, partners with subrogation and negotiates settlements.  The position ensures customer service requirements are met while achieving optimal claim outcomes, supporting both client expectations and the goals of the CorVel claims department.

 This is a remote role.

Must be licensed and experienced in New York.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives assigned claims, confirms policy coverage and acknowledges the claim.
  • Determines validity and compensability by investigating and gathering information, files necessary documentation with state agencies.
  • Establishes reserves and authorizes payments within authority limits.
  • Develops and manages action plans with case managers and outcomes managers to reduce overall claim costs.
  • Coordinates early return-to-work efforts with appropriate parties.
  • Manages subrogation and litigation as applicable.
  • Oversees potential claim recoveries of all types.
  • Reports claims to the excess carrier when applicable.
  • Provides clear, timely communication of claim status to customers and claimants.
  • Adheres to client and carrier guidelines; participates in claims reviews as needed.
  • Develops and maintains strong professional relationships with customers and internal partners.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable state rules and regulations in New York and New England jurisdictions.
  • Adapts quickly to new caseloads, client expectations, and system processes while maintaining service standards.
  • Performs additional projects and duties as assigned.

 

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Permanent “floater” role dedicated to providing senior-level claims coverage across New York and New England.
  • Temporarily assumes responsibility for diverse caseloads and client programs as business needs arise.
  • Offers flexibility and variety by working with multiple accounts and client service expectations.
  • Ensures consistency in claim handling, compliance and customer service during staff transitions, absences or workload shifts (while the position is permanent the caseloads are temporary).

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to assist team members to develop knowledge and understanding of claims practice.

  • Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.

  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Office including Excel spreadsheets.

  • Strong interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

  • Knowledge of the entire claims administration, case management and cost containment solution as applicable to Workers’ Compensation.

  • Willingness to become licensed in additional/all New England states. 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and related experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ industry experience and claim handling.
  • Self-Insured Certificate preferred.
  • An active license to handle WC claims in the State of New York as well as a license and/or experience in at least one additional New England state (CT, RI, NH, VT and/or ME).

 

PAY RANGE:

CorVel uses a market based approach to pay and our salary ranges may vary depending on your location.  Pay rates are established taking into account the following factors:  federal, state, and local minimum wage requirements, the geographic location differential, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, internal employee equity, and market conditions.  Our ranges may be modified at any time.

For leveled roles (I, II, III, Senior, Lead, etc.) new hires may be slotted into a different level, either up or down, based on assessment during interview process taking into consideration experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.  The level may impact the salary range and these adjustments would be clarified during the offer process.

Pay Range:  $61,053 - $98,334
