Summary: Schedules surgery appointments for patients in an efficient and timely manner

Essential Functions:

• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers through prompt response and courteous communication.

• Books, coordinates and reschedules patients’ surgical appointments and post-op appointments. Relays necessary messages to physicians, staff, and facilities. Mails/emails detailed info to patients.

• Maintains and updates current information on physician’s surgery schedules, including block times at various hospitals

• Coordinates surgery date and time and communicates that through updated surgery tracker.

• Discusses and counsel's patients on surgery information, guidelines, facility, date, time etc.

• Arranges for surgical assistant or second surgeon, neuromonitoring, and/or DME as necessary

• Faxes surgeon’s pre-op test/clearance orders to Primary Care Physician and referring physician and instructs the patient to make an appointment

• Informs patients of possible outside phone calls from DME, hospitals and our own business office

• Schedules pre-surgical conferences with physician, nurse or physician assistant Other Functions:

• Enhances professional growth and development through in-services, meetings and education programs

• Covers co-workers and cross trains as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic

• Participates in POSC Clinic meetings regarding hospital scheduling policies, quality issues and other concerns as needed

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two years work experience in a medical office setting and/or scheduling program preferred.

Skills:

Knowledge of medical terminology, computer experience.

Knowledge of medical office procedures including surgery procedures and practices.

Knowledge of interrelationship of surgery department with laboratory and radiology.

Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type patient information.

Skill in operating a computer, photocopy machine and fax.

Skill in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.

Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.
