Job description

Since 1967, Helen Keller National Center (HKNC) has been committed to improving the lives of individuals who are DeafBlind or have a combined hearing and vision loss. HKNC is dedicated to working with each person to achieve their desired goals towards independence, employment, and quality of life, based on their talents, preferences and aspirations. We currently have an exciting temporary full time career opportunity available to join the HKNC team as a full-time Administrative Assistant supporting our New England and South Eastern regions.  

This position is remote. Preferred candidate resides within one of the two regions and in the Eastern Time Zone.

Salary Range: $40,000.00- $44,500.00 annually.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides administrative support to regional office and regional representative including answering emails, answering telephone calls, drafting memos, typing and faxing documents. 
  • Creates, maintains, and manages financial record keeping, reports, e-files and data including Concur. 
  • Organizes and processes work in a timely manner, including responding to and follow up requests from consumer service providers and others.
  • Organizes and maintains consumer files. 
  • Responds to all inquiries in a timely, customer friendly manner.
  • Prepare and process reports in a timely manner.
  • Manage data in AWARE and File Maker Pro (older database). Run reports as needed. 
  • Maintains the general office area at home, including office equipment. 
  • Orders and maintains office supplies. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • High school graduate/equivalent; college or secretarial school graduate preferred. 
  • Minimum of three year's work experience in secretarial, clerical or administrative capacity. 
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency is Microsoft Office (including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet Explorer. Experience using MS Access and/or File Maker Pro a plus. 
  • Knowledge of office general equipment and procedures.
  • Must be extremely organized, professional, detail oriented and self-motivated.
  • Experience in working with the deaf and/or blind community (or individuals) a plus.
