Payroll and Accounting Specialist


AnswerFirst is expanding our Accounting team. We are seeking a skilled Payroll and Accounting Specialist that will report to our CFO. The mission of the Payroll and Accounting Specialist is to assist the CFO with various payroll and accounting tasks. The Payroll and Accounting Specialist will also be involved with various Human Resource and corporate culture tasks.



Position Requirements: 

  1. Maintain a regular 40 hour work week between Monday - Friday 8-6.

  2. Work with HR and Accounting to assist with payroll processing. This includes:

    1. Submitting payroll to PEO/payroll vendor.

    2. Answering employee inquiries regarding payroll.

    3. Maintaining PTO tracking spreadsheets.

    4. Track raises and/or cumulative hours for CSPs.

    5. Maintaining Full-Time status for ACA and benefits.

    6. Annual Benefit Renewals

    7. Tracking CSP login time and minutes talked.

  3. Update and enhance the payroll and/or PEO portal.

  4. Develop a program to ensure employees are aware of available benefits. This includes:

    1. Working with a PEO/payroll provider to discuss available benefits (i.e. 401K, Insurance, etc.).

    2. Looking into additional benefits such as discount tickets, etc.

    3. Evaluate benefits in preparation for annual renewals.

  5. Assist HR and Culture Specialist with continuing to enhance and develop a corporate culture. This includes:

    1. Looking into social events, recognition programs, charity participation, and overall health/life/work enhancement.

    2. Working with the culture committee to assist with developing cultural programs

  6. Research and document tax issues relating to state Nexus and other potential sales and/or income tax issues associated with hiring employees in other states.

  7. Assist with the creation and upkeep of all department documents including, but not limited to:

    1. Employee Handbook and Operations manuals. 

    2. Other policy and procedure documents and KB articles.

  1. Attend Human Resource and Culture seminars to research current trends to help with further development of the Operations department.

  2. Assist with the rollout and implementation of HR and Accounting projects that have been approved by the HR Manager and CFO. 

    1. Assist with the creation and upkeep of all department documents including, but not limited to:

      1. Employee Handbook and Operations manuals. 

      2. Other policy and procedure documents and KB articles.

    2. Assist with implementation of retention directives, standards and communications. 

  3. Maintain company, industry and working knowledge of essential functions performed by the team.

  1. Participate in meetings, workshops and career development opportunities as needed. 

  2. Build and maintain a network of industry contacts via LinkedIn, NAEO, ATSI and other resources. 

 12. Perform other tasks as needed.


Ideal Candidate

2+ years experience in payroll processing and accounts payable functions or a combined 1 year work related experience paired with a degree in Accounting

Strong understanding of payroll processing

Strong understanding of benefit administration

Excellent problem-solving skills 

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to maintain confidential information


Excellent written and verbal communication skills 


Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team in a Zoom environment


Position Requirements

Fully remote position utilizing your own secure home office space. Must be authorized to work in the US and reside in one of the following states to be eligible for hire:  

Alaska, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas or Wyoming

Great work attitude and work ethic.

Maintain a regular M-F, 40 hour work week between the hours of 8A-6P ET

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Compensation: Base + company revenue based bonus starting at $57,700 to $77,000
