Job description

We’ve built a next-generation platform and embedded payment API designed around an intelligent wallet architecture that allows businesses of all kinds to receive, manage, exchange and send money all over the world. Xtrm operates using a fully distributed team spanning many countries. We are a high growth company, with over 25,000 global customers.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Software Application Architect with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure to design, build and oversee scalable, secure, enterprise-cloud applications. The ideal candidate will translate business requirements into cloud architecture, lead application design and development teams, and ensure solutions align with best practices for performance, security, reliability and cost-efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the application architecture of cloud-based solutions on Azure for Indian customers or global profiles delivered from India — including IaaS, PaaS, serverless, containers/microservices.
  • Engage with business stakeholders, product owners, development, QA, operations teams to gather and refine functional & non-functional requirements (scalability, latency, resilience, security, cost)
  • Develop architecture blueprints, reference architectures, road-maps and integration/migration strategies — either for new builds on Azure or migrations from on-premises/hybrid to Azure.
  • Ensure adherence to Azure best practices such as the Azure Well-Architected Framework (governance, security, identity, cost management, monitoring).
  • Lead technical design reviews, code / architecture reviews, enforce standards & best practices across the SDLC (development → deployment → operations) in Indian context (e.g., local compliance/regulation, data residency).
  • Design and execute application migrations (on-premises → Azure), modernisation of legacy applications to cloud-native/hybrid (in Indian enterprise or MNC setups).
  • Help define and guide CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC, e.g., ARM Templates, Terraform), automation, monitoring, alerting and operationalisation of solutions.
  • Mentor and collaborate with development teams, support cloud-application design, secure coding practices, performance tuning, and knowledge transfer relevant to Indian delivery model.
  • Stay current with new Azure services/features, evaluate suitability for India-based architecture, and recommend adoption of relevant capabilities.
  • Produce and maintain architecture documentation, road-maps, governance and standards, and communicate architecture trade-offs clearly to both technical & non-technical stakeholders (including offshore/onshore teams).

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • At least 5+ years of experience in software/application architecture, with a significant portion (2–4+ years) focused on Azure cloud solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure services: compute (VMs, Azure App Services), storage (Blob, Cosmos DB, SQL), networking (VNets, ExpressRoute), PaaS/serverless (Azure Functions, Logic Apps), containers (AKS, Azure Container Instances).
  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles: scalability, high-availability, resilience, disaster recovery, security, cost optimisation — especially in the Indian enterprise delivery model.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages (C#, .NET CORE, PowerShell, etc) and familiarity with integrating applications with Azure services.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (ARM templates, Terraform), CI/CD (Azure DevOps/Bamboo/Jenkins), DevOps automation, monitoring/observability tools.
  • Excellent communication skills — ability to articulate architecture decisions, trade-offs and design rationale to both technical teams and business/stakeholders (including offshore delivery).
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure developer associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert will be strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid/remote delivery model, and manage across geographies if needed.

Preferred / Additional (Nice-to-Have)

  • Experience migrating monolithic / legacy applications to microservices, serverless or containerised architectures.
  • Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes/AKS) and hybrid cloud models (on-prem + cloud).
  • Previous consulting or enterprise-scale delivery experience
  • Experience across data platforms (Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, Data Lake) and analytics/AI services on Azure.
  • Prior exposure to governance/compliance, identity & access management (Azure AD, RBAC, MFA)
  • Understanding of DevSecOps, cloud security architecture, data residency/localisation issues (India), regional regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior architects/technical leads and manage architecture across full lifecycle.
