Job description

Why Join Walters Field Services USA?

At Walters Field Services USA, we believe our greatest product is not the buildings we construct—it is the leaders we develop.

We are committed to creating an environment where every employee is challenged to grow personally, professionally, and as a leader. Our Project Managers are entrusted with more than delivering successful projects; they are expected to build strong teams, mentor future leaders, and create lasting relationships with our customers.

If you are looking for an opportunity to lead complex structural steel projects while making a meaningful impact on the people around you, we invite you to join our team.

At Walters Field Services USA, we do not hire managers. We hire leaders. Processes are managed. People are led.

About the Position:

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, execution, financial performance, and successful delivery of assigned structural steel erection projects. Working closely with the Vice President of Operations, General Superintendents, Engineering, Preconstruction, Safety, Quality Assurance, and Finance, the Project Manager leads the project team from project handoff through final closeout.

At Walters Field Services USA, Project Managers do more than manage projects—they lead people. They are expected to build strong relationships with customers, develop their teams, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Leadership

  • Lead assigned projects from turnover through final completion.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the efforts of field operations, engineering, safety, quality, and accounting.
  • Establish clear project objectives and communicate expectations to the project team.

Financial Management

  • Manage project budgets and cost forecasts.
  • Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and project profitability.
  • Prepare monthly cost projections and financial forecasts.
  • Review and approve project-related expenditures within assigned authority.
  • Identify financial risks and implement corrective actions.

Contract Administration

  • Understand contract requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Manage subcontract agreements and supplier commitments.
  • Identify and negotiate change orders.
  • Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and contract correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation.

Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop project execution plans in collaboration with Operations.
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables and procurement activities.
  • Monitor schedule performance and implement recovery plans as needed.
  • Coordinate manpower requirements with General Superintendents.

Customer Relations

  • Serve as the primary commercial point of contact for assigned projects.
  • Build trust through proactive communication and professional problem-solving.
  • Conduct regular project review meetings with customers.
  • Foster long-term customer relationships that lead to repeat business.

Risk Management

  • Identify project risks early.
  • Develop mitigation strategies.
  • Escalate significant issues to executive leadership when appropriate.
  • Maintain awareness of contractual, operational, financial, and schedule risks.

Safety & Quality

  • Support the Director of Safety and Director of Quality Assurance in maintaining compliance with company standards.
  • Ensure safety and quality expectations are incorporated into project planning.
  • Promote a culture where safety and quality are everyone's responsibility.

Leadership

  • Lead and develop project team members.
