We are currently seeking a full-time Field Safety Specialist who is passionate about safety and ensuring the safety of others, responsible, self-motived and managed, leads by example and reliable to join our team.  This position reports directly to the Safety Director. A clear, valid driver's license is required and a CDL A or B is preferred.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desired.


This will position will service the greater KY, TN, GA areas. Travel is required.


JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for providing field support services and assisting the Safety Director, Safety Administrator, Regional Managers, Supervisors, and team members with the implementation and enforcement of Halter and client safety and health policies, procedures, and requirements. This position provides day-to-day compliance support, conducts routine compliance inspections and observations, delivers and develops safety-related training, investigates incidents, and maintains recordkeeping.


SCOPE

The Field Safety Specialist plays a critical role in supporting field operations by directly applying and enforcing safety policies, regulatory standards, and company and client expectations. This position is primarily field-based and is responsible for ensuring that crews operate safely and in compliance with internal procedures and external regulations. The Field Safety Specialist serves as a visible presence on job sites — proactively identifying hazards, conducting safety training, performing targeted and broad-scope inspections, and reinforcing a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. The role requires daily interaction with field crews, as well as supervision and management, to align safe work expectations with operational goals.


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of safety programs in accordance with management system elements.
  • Conduct training as necessary to ensure applicable rules, procedures, and expectations are understood.
  • Conduct engagements and observations with employees and contract partners, providing immediate coaching on safe and unsafe conditions observed.
  • Conduct joint compliance walks and site reviews with utility and client representatives, serving as Halter's field safety point of contact.
  • Conduct field and site inspections, document deficiencies, and develop sustainable solutions to prevent repeat findings.
  • Participate in the incident investigation process, including root cause analysis and identification of corrective actions.
  • Reinforce safe work expectations in accordance with applicable laws, rules, procedures, and standards.
  • Review safety-related data and metrics to identify trends and recommend corrective actions to address issues identified.
  • Exercise stop-work authority whenever an unsafe condition is present.
  • Make recommendations to management concerning disciplinary action when safety violations occur.
  • Conduct new-hire safety orientation.
  • Identify, evaluate, and coordinate the implementation of new methods and approaches to accelerate safety improvement.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to group projects.
  • Deliver group presentations and training sessions.
  • Perform and prioritize tasks under time constraints with accuracy.
  • Interpret and apply OSHA, ANSI Z133, DOT, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Document field observations, incident findings, and corrective actions thoroughly and accurately.
  • Travel to job sites with the flexibility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while aligning with the direction of the Safety Director and Safety Administrator.
  • Deliver effective safety training, briefings, and orientations to field and management personnel.
  • Use technology (e.g., tablets, laptop, safety applications, GPS, Microsoft Office) to support safety reporting and communication.


QUALIFICATIONS


Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in utility vegetation management, line clearance, or arboriculture.
  • Prior experience as a field general foreman, crew foreman, or trainer is a plus.


Education

  • Associate's degree in occupational safety, safety management, or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.


Certifications & Licenses

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record that meets company and insurance standards (required).
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • OSHA 30-Hour (General Industry or Construction) preferred.
  • One or more of the following preferred, or a willingness to obtain: Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), Certified Tree care Safety Professional (CTSP), ISA Certified Arborist, or ISA Utility Specialist.


Language

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
