Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced epidemiologists with strong expertise in patient-population sizing, real-world data, disease epidemiology, and pharmaceutical or biotech development programmes.

This role supports an expert evaluation initiative focused on commercial medicines and drug-development programmes. Selected professionals will size patient populations across specific diseases and indications, assess the quality of epidemiological assumptions and source evidence, identify over- or under-counting, and help develop rigorous evaluation frameworks for pharmaceutical analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Population Sizing

  • Estimate patient populations for specific diseases, indications, and therapeutic programmes
  • Develop epidemiological funnels spanning prevalence, incidence, diagnosis, treatment, and addressable populations
  • Assess how eligibility criteria and treatment pathways affect addressable patient estimates
  • Identify potential over-counting, under-counting, or double-counting within population models
  • Apply professional epidemiological judgment across multiple drugs and indications

Real-World Data Analysis

  • Use claims, electronic health records, registries, and other real-world data sources to inform patient estimates
  • Assess the suitability and limitations of different data sources
  • Evaluate case definitions, diagnosis criteria, coding strategies, and population-selection logic
  • Identify data-quality issues that may distort patient counts
  • Translate real-world evidence into clear and defensible patient funnels

Epidemiological Evaluation

  • Review prevalence and incidence assumptions for scientific and methodological soundness
  • Assess whether estimates are appropriately sourced and supported
  • Evaluate extrapolation methods and assumptions across populations
  • Identify unrealistic epidemiological assumptions or unsupported conclusions
  • Review the relationship between diagnosed, treated, eligible, and addressable patient populations

Rubric Development & Expert Review

  • Create structured evaluation rubrics for patient-population and drug-programme analysis
  • Critique existing rubrics for scientific accuracy, completeness, and methodological rigour
  • Define criteria that reflect experienced epidemiological judgment
  • Identify missing considerations or weaknesses in analytical frameworks
  • Provide clear written reasoning supporting evaluation decisions

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

  • At least 5 years of professional epidemiology experience
  • Graduate-level training in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or a related discipline
  • Experience sizing patient populations for diseases, indications, or pharmaceutical programmes
  • Hands-on experience converting claims, EHR, registry, or other real-world data into patient funnels
  • Strong understanding of prevalence, incidence, diagnosis rates, treatment rates, and addressable populations
  • Familiarity with biotech or pharmaceutical development programmes
  • Strong quantitative and methodological judgment
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail
  • Current residence in the United States

Educational Background

  • A graduate degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or a closely related field is highly relevant
  • Advanced quantitative or healthcare research training may strengthen an application
  • Substantial professional epidemiology experience is particularly important for this engagement

Nice to Have

  • Pharmaceutical or biotechnology epidemiology experience
  • Background in real-world evidence or outcomes research
  • Experience working with administrative claims databases
  • Experience analysing electronic health record data
  • Familiarity with disease registries
  • Experience supporting commercial forecasting or market-sizing work
  • Knowledge of indication-specific treatment pathways
  • Prior experience with structured expert review, rubric development, or AI evaluation

Why This Opportunity

  • Apply epidemiological expertise to sophisticated pharmaceutical evaluation work
  • Build and review patient-population estimates across multiple diseases and indications
  • Work with real-world data and clinically relevant patient funnels
  • Help establish rigorous standards for evaluating epidemiological assumptions
  • Participate in a focused paid pilot with potential for recurring work
  • Contribute specialist scientific judgment to advanced AI evaluation

Contract Details

  • Independent contractor role
  • Fully remote within the United States
  • Part-time pilot engagement
  • Approximately 10–20 total hours over an initial 1–2 week period
  • Competitive rates between $145–$170 per hour depending on expertise and project scope
  • At least 5 years of professional epidemiology experience is required
  • Strong contributors may be considered for recurring or expanded engagements
  • Work may include patient-population sizing, epidemiological analysis, real-world data review, rubric development, and expert critique
  • Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or adjusted depending on scope and performance
