Job description



Stambaugh Ness is seeking an experienced and client-focused Manager, Outsourced Accounting Services to lead client engagements, mentor accounting professionals, and drive exceptional service delivery within our growing Outsourced Accounting Services (OAS) practice.

In this role, you will serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of clients, ensuring accurate and timely accounting services, financial reporting, and operational excellence. You will oversee a team of accounting professionals while partnering with leadership to support business growth, client retention, and service expansion.

What you’ll do at SN:

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned outsourced accounting clients.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with client executives, including CFOs, Controllers, and business leaders.
  • Lead monthly and quarterly business review meetings, presenting financial results, key performance indicators, and actionable recommendations.
  • Manage engagement timelines, deliverables, and service expectations to ensure exceptional client satisfaction.
  • Proactively identify and resolve client issues and engagement risks.

Accounting & Financial Leadership

  • Oversee the delivery of outsourced accounting services, including:
    • General ledger management
    • Month-end and year-end close activities
    • Billing and revenue processes
    • Financial statement preparation and reporting
  • Review client deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP.
  • Support audits, reviews, and special projects as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance quality, efficiency, and scalability.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Project Accountants and Senior Project Accountants.
  • Delegate and prioritize work to ensure successful delivery across multiple client engagements.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide ongoing feedback, and support career development.
  • Partner with leadership on staffing, onboarding, training, and succession planning.

Practice Growth & Business Development

  • Participate in prospect meetings, discovery calls, and solution discussions.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services within existing client relationships.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership and marketing on thought leadership initiatives and service enhancements.
  • Stay current on industry trends and client challenges to help shape practice growth

What you may have done before:

  • Worked successfully in a fully remote environment.
  • Worked within the Outsourced Accounting Services practice of a leading professional service firm.
  • Worked within the AEC industry.

What it takes to be a Manager, Outsourced Accounting Services:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Prior experience leading or supervising accounting professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.
  • Experience managing multiple client engagements and competing priorities.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, Deltek ERP systems, and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA license or active progress toward CPA licensure.
  • Experience in outsourced accounting, consulting, client accounting services (CAS), or professional services environments.
  • Experience with accounting automation tools and process improvement initiatives.
  • Business development experience, including participation in prospect meetings, solution scoping, or proposal development.

Salary: The salary range for this position is an estimate of $125,000 - $145,000. A final compensation offer within this range will be based on factors including an individual’s skill sets, experience, knowledge, licensure and certifications, and geography.
