Position Summary

The Marketing Manager is responsible for developing and executing integrated marketing strategies that drive student enrollment, strengthen brand awareness, and support NOLS' mission of Elevating the Leader in Everyone. This role combines strategic planning, campaign execution, performance analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to connect prospective students with transformational wilderness education experiences.

The ideal candidate is equal parts analytical thinker and storyteller—someone who enjoys using data to inform decisions while crafting compelling campaigns that inspire action. This position works closely with teams across the organization to deliver measurable marketing results and ensure a consistent, engaging brand experience.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Marketing & Performance Analytics

  • Own the relationship with the external advertising agency.

  • Monitor campaign performance using Google Analytics, Looker Studio and other reporting tools.

  • Analyze website traffic, conversion performance, and marketing KPIs to generate actionable insights alongside the agency.

  • Develop regular performance reports and recommend optimizations based on data.

Marketing Strategy & Campaign Management

  • Plan, execute, and optimize integrated marketing campaigns that support enrollment goals across multiple product lines.

  • Manage campaign timelines, budgets, deliverables, and reporting.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to align marketing efforts with organizational priorities.

  • Identify opportunities to improve campaign performance and customer acquisition.

Content & Brand Storytelling

  • Support development of compelling marketing content across email, web, blog, social media, and paid campaigns.

  • Ensure messaging is aligned with the NOLS brand voice and strategic objectives.

  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to bring authentic stories to life.

  • Help maintain consistency across all customer touchpoints.

Website & Digital Experience

  • Manage website content updates and collaborate on improvements to user experience and conversion performance.

  • Ensure website content remains accurate, current, and optimized for prospective students.

Market Research & Audience Insights

  • Conduct market and competitive research to identify trends, audience needs, and enrollment opportunities.

  • Translate customer insights into marketing recommendations and campaign improvements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Expeditions, Custom Education, Wilderness Medicine, Alumni Trips and Advancement to support organizational initiatives.

  • Coordinate marketing support for events, launches, and organizational priorities.

  • Represent the marketing team in cross-functional planning and project discussions.

  • Complete a NOLS course to gain firsthand experience with our educational philosophy and programs.

  • Become proficient in key marketing platforms, including Looker Studio, Google Analytics, and internal systems.

  • Build relationships with stakeholders across the organization.

Drive Results

  • Successfully manage ongoing marketing campaigns that support enrollment objectives.

  • Begin identifying opportunities to improve campaign performance through data and testing.

  • Deliver consistent reporting and insights to marketing leadership.

Contribute Strategically

  • Recommend new ideas to improve enrollment, brand awareness, and customer engagement.

  • Develop confidence managing projects independently while collaborating across teams.

  • Become a trusted marketing partner for internal stakeholders.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience managing integrated marketing campaigns across multiple channels.

  • Experience using marketing analytics platforms such as Google Analytics or similar tools.

  • Strong written communication and storytelling skills.

  • Ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable recommendations.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience marketing education, outdoor recreation, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.

  • Experience with collaborating with external agencies and contractors.

  • Familiarity with SEO, content strategy, and conversion optimization.

  • Experience with Looker Studio or other business intelligence tools.

  • Passion for outdoor education, leadership development, or experiential learning.
