Position Overview

Senior Director, Impact is responsible for collaborating with the Impact Leadership Team to meet all departmental goals and support the overall development and management of their staff.

The Senior Director, Impact oversees the implementation of all programmatic aspects of the City Year program, including the management and accountability of School Partnership Directors and their teams in delivering our service, identifying professional development needs and opportunities, strengthening school partner relationships and supporting the AmeriCorps member experience through professional development.

What You’ll Do

Service Delivery & Impact

Drive the implementation of City Year’s Whole School, Whole Child Tier 1 supports and Tier 2 interventions with a high degree of quality to the right students, in the right dosage, across the site.

  • Ensure the quality and consistency of specific components of the WSWC model across all school sites. Including but not limited to:
  • School climate activities and organizational initiatives (Tier 1 events)
  • Extended Day programming
  • SEL programming implementation
  • Academic Interventions
  • Conduct Observations of AmeriCorps Member Tier 1 and Tier 2 service with Impact Managers
  • Share explicit strategy ideas with Impact Managers based on observations and data.
  • Use City Year Culture and Values to support and carry out service implementation.
  • Effectively gather, analyze, and utilize data.
  • Manage and track progress to Impact Operating Goals at individual schools and across the Village.
  • Oversee collection and input of data by Impact Managers, meeting all deadlines laid out by Evaluations Manager and Managing Director of Impact
  • Utilize data to inform decisions, strategy, and coaching/support of Impact Managers.
  • Leverage Site Evaluation Manager as appropriate to train the CY team on how to use student progress monitoring systems.
  • Implement feedback and accountability structures to ensure AmeriCorps Members and staff within village remain on track to achieving goals.

Staff and AmeriCorps Member Development and Experience

Lead, manage, and coach a team of up to 6 Impact Managers and 60 AmeriCorps members resulting in achievement of service performance requirements, meeting organizational standards, a meaningful experience, and reaching their leadership development potential.

  • Plan and execute the onboarding of new Impact Managers, including the creation of a 30-60-90-day plan tailored to the new team members' learning style and designed to prepare them for success in their role.
  • Drive Impact Manager preparation for ACM support and partnership management in pursuit of student impact by planning and executing meaningful trainings at the start of each service year.
  • Lead weekly one on ones to coach, mentor, and support team of Impact Managers in pursuit of improved AmeriCorps Member program delivery, leadership, and experience.
  • Conduct monthly observations of AmeriCorps Member service implementation with Impact Manager at each school, identifying opportunities for growth and development for both corps and staff.
  • Use the performance management process to coach team members to meet individual development and performance goals.
  • Hold bi-weekly Village Meetings addressing trends and fostering necessary mindsets and skills in Impact Managers.
  • Co-develop a comprehensive plan for Impact Team professional development with Impact Leadership team, leading portions of the development plan within Impact Team Meetings.
  • Work with Learning and Development Team and Impact Managers to coordinate necessary service related training and development experiences for ACMs across the village.
  • Build a positive culture across department in which Staff and AmeriCorps Members feel valued, supported, challenged, and successful.
  • Consistently use elements of City Year Culture/Values to support the growth and development of team members.

Partnership Cultivation and Management

Foster deep, mutually beneficial, transformational partnerships with Miami-Dade County Public School leadership and the leaders at the school sites within the village.

  • Serve as Primary Liaison to MDCPS Executive Directors, coordinating collaborative school visits, shared problem solving and two-way feedback.
  • Communicate key updates from MDCPS with Impact Leadership Team and broader Impact Team
  • Engage with City Year Miami Board Members as leader of the AmeriCorps Member Experience Committee designed to problem solve in support of improved outcomes at a member level.
  • Coach Impact Managers and Team Leaders on how to build school relationships by understanding and meeting teacher and school’s needs.
  • Adapt the WSWC model where necessary to meet changing conditions and needs across the village.
  • Work in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools Support Team including Instructional Supervisors and Curriculum Support Specialists.

Impact Team Leadership and Development

  • Oversee the Summer Onboarding of all Impact Team Members, reviewing essential content for the coming fiscal year.
  • Develop and maintain an effective 30-60-90 day onboarding plan for incoming Impact Managers and Impact Directors.
  • Coordinate with Impact Team Members to support with the onboarding of new staff in alignment with 30-60-90 plan.
  • Own the planning and execution of City Year Miami Impact Team Meetings, with a specific emphasis on team level learning and development opportunities.
  • Engage Impact Directors, Managing Director of Impact, and other Impact Team Members as leaders in Impact Team Meeting Spaces, providing ample time for planning and preparation.
  • Participate in bi-weekly Directors Meetings to support continued advancement of the site.
  • Lead high priority projects across the site in a manner that is collaborative and inclusive of the ideas and perspectives of all members of the impact team, including Team Leaders and AmeriCorps Members (when applicable).
  • Work closely with Impact Directors from other villages to align Village Meetings.
  • Manage village and school team budgets responsibly, supporting broader site sustainability.

Organizational Stewardship

  • Engage actively as a member of the City Year Miami team and national network by participating in conference calls, responding to e-mails, and completing other tasks as necessary.
  • Lead on select site and network initiatives.
  • Engage fully in the recruitment and confirmation of Returning AmeriCorps Members across the site by interviewing and taking part in selection committee.
  • Assist with MLK Day, Opening Day, Annual Luncheon, and other side-wide designated events.
  • Attend overnight events including Pro-Serve (a conference for all City Year Impact staff held in Boston), and other local and national events.

What You’ll Bring

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Urban Studies, Youth Work, or other related field a plus.
  • Experience in education and/or non-profit management preferred.
  • City Year / AmeriCorps experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and inspire a diverse team of young adults in educational, community service, or youth development organization.
  • Demonstrated management and team leadership experience.
  • A strong track record of coaching other adults to reach specific outcomes and goals.
  • Experience bringing together and facilitating diverse groups of individuals for a common purpose.
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, and creative problem-solving skills in ambiguous, entrepreneurial, and dynamic environments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the building of collaborative structures, team environments, and partnerships.
  • Ability to work with and interact with multiple, diverse stakeholders.
  • Flexibility, persistence, and the ability to prioritize and take initiative in a fast-changing environment.
  • A process and detail-oriented approach to project planning and management of outcomes and milestones.
