Overview

Shape the Delivery of World-Class Pharmaceutical Projects

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Lead Project Controls Manager to join our growing Project & Programme Management team in Cork, supporting the delivery of major pharmaceutical and life sciences capital investment projects for a leading global client.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead project controls activities across a portfolio of complex projects, providing strategic oversight of planning, cost management, forecasting, reporting, change control, and performance management. Working as part of AtkinsRéalis' Owner's Representative team, you will play a critical role in ensuring successful project outcomes from concept through to commissioning and handover.

Your role

  • As Lead Project Controls Manager, you will be responsible for establishing and leading best-in-class project controls processes, providing trusted advice to both client and project leadership teams, and ensuring robust governance across programme delivery.
  • You will lead a multidisciplinary project controls function, integrating planning, scheduling, cost management, change management, risk management and performance reporting to support informed decision-making and successful project execution.
  • Lead all project controls activities across a portfolio of pharmaceutical capital projects.
  • Establish and maintain project controls governance, systems and processes.
  • Manage integrated planning, scheduling, cost control, forecasting and reporting functions.
  • Develop and maintain programme-wide performance reporting and KPI dashboards.
  • Lead project reviews and provide performance insights to senior client stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective management of project budgets, commitments, forecasts and contingency.
  • Oversee change control processes and assess cost and schedule impacts.
  • Coordinate risk management activities and support mitigation planning.
  • Review contractor and consultant performance against agreed baselines.
  • Drive consistency and standardisation of project controls methodologies.
  • Support project managers and leadership teams with strategic project performance advice.
  • Manage and mentor project controls professionals within the wider delivery team.
  • Interface with engineering, procurement, construction, CQV and operations stakeholders.

About you

Essential

  • Relevant years of experience in project controls, project management, cost management, planning or programme management.
  • Significant experience delivering large-scale pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, industrial or major capital projects.
  • Proven experience leading project controls teams on complex programmes.
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle governance and capital project delivery.
  • Experience establishing project controls frameworks, procedures and reporting structures.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Technical Expertise

  • Cost management and forecasting.
  • Integrated planning and scheduling.
  • Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Change control and trend management.
  • Risk management and quantitative risk analysis.
  • Performance reporting and KPI development.
  • Portfolio and programme controls.
  • Contractor performance management.

Systems Experience

  • Experience with some or all of the following:
    • Primavera P6
    • EcoSys.
    • Power BI.
    • Acumen.
    • Primavera Risk Analysis.
    • Microsoft Project.
    • Cost and project controls reporting systems.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Finance or related discipline.
  • Professional membership with AACE, PMI, RICS, SCSI, Engineers Ireland or equivalent is desirable.
  • Relevant project controls, planning or programme management certifications would be advantageous.
