Job description

The Biostatistician provides knowledge in statistical analysis to institutional staff interested in conducting clinical or experimental studies or to other researchers as designated by grant relationships. The Biostatistician progresses towards working independently with investigators. Some direct communication with investigators is expected.

Overview:

 

The Department of Global Pediatric Medicine is a growing department looking for professionals who are eager to help implement the St. Jude Global (SJG) mission of training the clinical workforce, developing and strengthening health systems and patient-centered initiatives, and advancing knowledge to sustain continuous improvement through research.

 

Summary:

The Department of Global Pediatric Medicine (GPM) is seeking a Biostatistician to provide analytic support to program teams in GPM and SJG. The Biostatistician provides research expertise to collaborators in GPM and SJG, in all aspects of conducting statistical analyses for clinical studies, global surveys, and research projects. These activities are to be executed as appropriate under the guidance of the director of Global Analytics.

This position may be eligible for remote work. However, St. Jude requires all remote employees to:

  • Travel to our Memphis campus for the interview process and/or orientation, if selected
  • Travel to Memphis to work on-site for one week per quarter, or as requested based on business needs, if hired.

This position is remote within approved U.S. locations. Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide knowledge in statistical and/or epidemiological analysis to researchers conducting basic, translational, clinical, and/or population science studies designated by collaboration areas.
  • Perform data QA/QC, data management, programming for data preparation, and statistical and/or epidemiological analyses using standard statistical packages.
  • Perform standard statistical and/or epidemiological analysis, and prepare analysis reports including graphical and table presentations, descriptions of methods used, interpretation of analysis findings, and making valid inferences.
  • Work under limited guidance of a supervising faculty or designee. Collaborate and consult independently with investigators as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's degree with 4+ years experience in biostatistics and/or epidemiological consulting and/or research.
  • Experience Exception: Master's degree with 2+ years of experience (OR) PhD with no experience.
  • Experience in standard statistical and/or epidemiological methods, statistical software programming, and/or study design is preferred.

  • Basic understanding of efficient computational flow/algorithm and programming and scripting for various computations, documents and organizes programs for later retrieval, use, and sharing. Some understanding of various statistical/ epidemiological/ pharmacometrics methods, communicates assumptions, applications, and results of various statistical/ epidemiological/ pharmacometric methods for different research settings. Performs routine job-related tasks and activities under limited guidance.
  • Ability to understand research objectives and hypotheses. Skills in designing experimental and research studies by providing sample size/power consultation, and preparing a statistical/epidemiological analysis plan.
  • Learns on the job and applies skills in routine tasks and activities; delivers under supervision and guidance
  • Gains understanding of specific aims of each research project in the context and language of biological, clinical, and/or population sciences. Learns how to translate scientific issues to quantitative analyses, weighing advantages and disadvantages of different analytic approaches, and jointly making analytic decisions with investigators. Able to perform routine tasks and activities in study design; designs experimental and research studies and prepares a statistical and/or pharmacometrics simulation/ modeling/ analysis plan under supervision and guidance.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $86,320 - $154,960 per year for the role of Biostatistician, Global Analytics.
