Job description

About us

Bettersource is the leading provider of global staffing and outsourcing solutions to companies in Australia & New Zealand.

About the client

Our client is a boutique accounting firm in Australia, with the majority of its clients being politicians. Confidentiality is therefore essential to this role.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, highly organised, and detail-oriented Accountant to manage accounting and bookkeeping functions across multiple entities. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is confident in managing multiple accounts, working independently, and maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.

This is a part-time role (20 hours per week), with the opportunity to transition into a full-time position based on performance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Set up and maintain Xero accounts for new entities, including charts of accounts, financial settings, and accounting processes.
  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting across 6 entities, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and supported by valid documentation.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, including bank, balance sheet, and other relevant accounts.
  • Prepare and issue sales invoices for 1 entity and manage weekly Accounts Payable payment runs for management approval.
  • Review supplier invoices and supporting documentation before processing payments.
  • Process payroll as required and maintain accurate payroll records in Xero.
  • Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) in accordance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and reconciled accounts for political campaigns.
  • Assist with month-end and quarter-end accounting processes, including financial reporting and analysis.
  • Use advanced Excel to analyse financial data, prepare reconciliations, identify discrepancies, and produce reports.
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and maintain accurate, well-organised financial records.
  • Liaise with suppliers, external accountants, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Provide general accounting and bookkeeping support across the business.

    About you

    • Proven experience as an Accountant, Bookkeeper, or in a similar accounting role.
    • Previous experience using Xero is essential, including setting up new entities and managing accounting functions across multiple entities.
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential, including formulas, data analysis, reconciliations, and reporting.
    • Strong experience with monthly and quarterly reconciliations, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and payroll.
    • Experience preparing Business Activity Statements (BAS).
    • Experience preparing and reconciling acquittals for political campaigns is highly desirable.
    • Strong understanding of accounting and bookkeeping principles, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
    • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality.

    What we offer

    • Top-of-market salaries.
    • Independent work - from the comfort of home. Your output is important, not how or where you work.
    • An unparalleled work culture.
