Job description

Rhino + Jetty is making housing more affordable and accessible for millions of renters each year. We're the market-leading rental housing platform building simpler, more accessible ways for people to move into homes — and for property managers to lease with confidence.

Our technology removes friction from the move-in process, lowers upfront costs for renters, and helps property managers make faster, more accurate decisions. We support a network of 3 million rental units nationwide and work with 47 of the NMHC Top 100 property owners, including Greystar, Brookfield, Asset Living, UDR, and more.

We pioneered security deposit insurance and continue to push the industry forward with a growing suite of products — from deposit management to lease guarantees and loss-of-employment protection. We're growing quickly, tackling real problems at scale, and building technology that's changing how renting works.

About the role

The Senior Manager, Data Engineering will be a key member of R + J’s Technology team and will report directly to the CTO. This is a tech lead manager role, you will be responsible for both managing a small team and building while setting technical standards. We think of the split as roughly 60% hands-on engineering and 40% leading.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a nimble, high-impact data team of three, including data engineers and analysts, while setting the technical bar and contributing directly to the hardest problems
  • Own the entire data pipeline from warehouse to internal dashboards to external reporting, ensuring consistency and reliability across our data stack
  • Drive the technical recommendations behind data infrastructure decisions and vendor selections in partnership with the CTO, to support company growth and a self-service analytics culture
  • Partner closely with the Risk team to build structured, repeatable insurance reporting processes, including actuarial and bordereau reports
  • Consolidate currently siloed analysis across the organization, creating unified reporting standards and data accessibility
  • Enable self-service analytics capabilities across the company while maintaining data governance and quality standards
  • Collaborate with the CTO and cross-functional teams to own the data roadmap and align it with business objectives and the broader technical roadmap

We’re ideally seeking:

  • Hands-on experience with the full data stack: data warehouses (e.g. Snowflake, BigQuery), dbt, ETL tools (e.g. Fivetran, Stitch, Airflow), and BI platforms (e.g. Tableau, Looker)
  • 6+ years building and owning production data pipelines, including experience leading a small data team as a player-coach in a high-velocity environment
  • Background in fintech or insurtech with experience maintaining financial product reporting (e.g. actuarial reports, loan tapes)
  • Experience managing and mentoring data engineers and analysts while contributing meaningful individual contributor work
  • Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and meet each organization’s data needs
