Description:

CTG is seeking to fill a Storage SME position for our client.

 

Location: Remote

Duration: 6 months

Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST with participation in an on-call rotation supporting a 24x7 production environment.

 

Duties:

  • Administer and support enterprise z/OS mainframe storage environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability.

  • Manage DASD and tape storage infrastructure, including configuration, migration, replication, and lifecycle management.

  • Provide production support for multiple LPARs, CECs, DASD subsystems, and virtual tape environments.

  • Configure, monitor, and maintain DFSMS components including DFSMSHSM, DFSMSDSS, DFSMSDFP, DFSMSRMM, and related storage utilities.

  • Perform storage provisioning, capacity planning, performance tuning, and issue resolution.

  • Monitor storage health using OMEGAMON XE or similar enterprise storage monitoring tools.

  • Support catalog management, VSAM datasets, IDCAMS utilities, and storage-related system maintenance.

  • Analyze and resolve storage issues including space abends, dataset allocation problems, and storage performance bottlenecks.

  • Generate and interpret SMF, DCollect, BVIR, and other storage utilization reports.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to implement storage modernization initiatives and ensure compliance with operational standards.

  • Participate in after-hours, weekend, and holiday on-call support as required to support global operations.

Skills:

  • Expert knowledge of z/OS storage administration and mainframe storage technologies.

  • Strong experience administering DASD and tape storage environments.

  • In-depth knowledge of z/OS fundamentals, MVS, TSO, ISPF, JES2, SDSF, ISMF, JCL, VSAM, catalogs, and dataset management (PS, PDS, PDSE, GDG).

  • Experience with DFSMS, DFSMSHSM, DFSMSDSS, DFSMSDFP, DFSMSRMM, ICF Catalog, IDCAMS, FDR products, ICKDSF, and CA storage management products including CA Disk, CA Allocate, and CA-1.

  • Familiarity with REXX, SAS, storage reporting tools, and enterprise monitoring solutions.

  • Experience performing storage migrations, replication, disaster recovery support, and capacity planning.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments while supporting mission-critical production environments.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills within cross-functional infrastructure teams.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Mainframe Storage Administration.

  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise z/OS production environments.

  • Hands-on experience with storage migrations (DASD-to-DASD and Tape-to-Tape) and storage replication technologies.

  • Experience supporting multiple global regions with participation in 24x7 operational support.

  • Background in infrastructure administration, systems programming, storage management, and z/OS platform support is highly preferred.

  • Candidates with primary experience in application development (such as COBOL, PL/I, DB2 application programming, CICS application development, IMS application development, Java on z/OS, or application maintenance) are not aligned with the requirements of this infrastructure-focused role.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $61-$65/hr. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. In addition to salary, a competitive benefit package is also offered.
