Home Lending Area Manager

Job Summary

This position is responsible for building a team of Sr. Lending managers and Loan officers who sell Flagstar lending products and services. Proactively identify, develop and maintain a quality network of business relationships that serves as a source of referrals for new mortgage lending opportunities. Results are driven through recruiting, coaching, and mentoring Sr. Lending Manager and their direct reports. This is a non-producing role with a focus on building and leading a team to identify sales opportunities, focus on quality, and deliver a one-of-a-kind customer experience to home buyers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting/Mentoring: Recruit, hire, develop, lead and retain a small number of quality loan officers. Monitor sales activity within the sales team. Responsible for conducting training for any new hire or existing hires in both skills development and product training. Manage sales team to ensure development of relationships with referral sources to obtain mortgage leads. Maintain a broad understanding of products, guidelines and pricing strategies.   • Training & Professional Development: Attend Flagstar required production meetings. Attend/complete all Flagstar and industry required training. Actively participate in opportunities to expand knowledge, influencing and interpersonal skills. (Insert Responsibility Here)

  • Sales Strategy: Establish production goals and strategy for Sr. Lending Managers and Loan Officers. Identify, plan, organize and implement sales programs and strategies to deliver sales results. Set strategy and deliver on productivity and cost targets. Evaluate data to determine local market potential and make recommendations on business plan for the home lending branches within the respective region. (Insert Responsibility Here)

  • Customer Service: Responsible for handling file and customer escalations. Assist in resolving issues that may arise during the loan processing and closing stages and help expedite requests that may be taking longer than anticipated.

  • Operations: Ensure operational efficiency and accuracy as it relates to policies, procedure, compliance, origination, corporate audits, work schedules and overall branch operations. Ensure loans are offered and sources according to Flagstar’s guidelines for sale in secondary market.

  • May be responsible for talent management functions including: employment, performance evaluations, staff development/training, disciplinary actions, succession planning and ensuring all staff comply with compliance requirements.

ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.

  • Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance training. Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications:

  • Education level required: High School / High School Equivalency (GED, HiSET, TASC) / Foreign Equivalent.

  • Minimum experience required: 4+ Years leading, managing, motivating and developing a Loan Officer team to meet and exceed assigned goals within a results driven environment.

  • NMLS.

  • Must meet and comply with all requirements set forth in the SAFE Act, including by not limited to successful completion of the required background checks and obtaining a Unique Identifier for the NMLS.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education level preferred: Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent).

Job Competencies:

  • Ability and desire to recruit, coach and mentor loan officers.

  • Excellent sales presentation and marketing skills. 

  • Knowledge of conventional and /or government guidelines.

  • Knowledge of processing underwriting and or closing procedures.

  • Ability to analyze and comprehend complex financial data and provide financial alternatives.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, across a variety of audiences.

  • Solid time management skills and the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Professional and effective interpersonal skills

  • Strong computer skills including MS applications and previous experience utilizing laptop technology for communication purposes including accessing credit and loan status information

  • Demonstrates a strong ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders by communicating clearly, engaging in proactive collaboration, and leveraging cross functional insights. Aligns relationship building efforts with enterprise goals to accelerate performance and drive strategic results.

  • Builds trusted client relationships, whether internal or external, by identifying needs and delivering tailored solutions to enhance the overall client experience.

  • Fosters or supports a positive work culture and productive work environment, displaying importance of effective relationships with customers and stakeholders.

  • 50% of time spent traveling

  • Physical demands (ADA): The job requires a moderate degree of physical exertion and stamina such as standing, sitting, walking, driving or infrequent lifting.
