Job Summary

The Credit Products Manager (CPM) is responsible for overseeing first-line credit underwriting and portfolio management within an assigned business including but not limited to Corporate Banking and Regional Commercial Banking, ensuring alignment with the bank’s risk appetite and business objectives. This role manages a team of underwriters and credit professionals (Credit Products Specialists and Credit Products Analysts), ensuring accurate risk ratings, loan evaluation and underwriting, and ongoing portfolio management. Utilizing data-driven insights and portfolio analytics, a CPM identifies emerging risks and opportunities, providing recommendations to leadership to support sound credit decisions. Collaborating with sales, risk, and technology teams, this role helps drive responsible growth, improve underwriting processes, and enhance credit product offerings. With a focus on operational execution, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement, a CPM plays a key role in maintaining portfolio quality and supporting the bank’s long-term success.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains visibility and deep knowledge of bank relationships within the assigned LOB to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Executes on the strategic priorities set by the Head of Credit Products, Line of Business leaders, Credit Products Senior Director and 2nd and 3rd Line Risk partners to ensure alignment with enterprise goals.
  • Proactively identifies and escalates areas for improvement in credit processes, policies and procedures.
  • Maintains the credit quality of assigned portfolios and/or lending verticals by overseeing underwriting, portfolio management, and risk monitoring activities.
  • Establishes and fosters a shared vision across assigned regions and verticals, ensuring consistency in credit decisioning and risk management practices.
  • Attracts, develops, and retains top talent within Credit Products by providing leadership, coaching, and professional development opportunities for underwriters, portfolio managers, and credit analysts.
  • Collaborates closely with Sales, Credit Products, and Risk teams to drive responsible growth, optimize credit decisioning, and enhance portfolio performance.
  • Serves as a key point of contact for deal flow assignment, credit risk reviews, and escalations, ensuring timely and well-informed credit decisions.
  • Leverages data-driven insights and analytics to identify emerging credit risks and opportunities, proactively adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Well versed in legal documentation (e.g., Credit Agreements) and positioned to both develop more junior associates on the topic and interact with internal and external legal counsel and negotiate terms directly with clients.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and risk frameworks while supporting continuous process improvements.
  • Provides credit risk reporting and analysis to senior leadership, contributing to portfolio strategy and risk management discussions.
  • Partners with legal and compliance teams to ensure underwriting and portfolio management practices align with all regulatory requirements.
  • Supports senior leadership in delivering portfolio analysis and reporting, contributing to strategic decision-making.
  • Recruits, develops and trains top credit underwriting and portfolio management talent.

ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs special projects, to include continuous improvement and transformation initiatives, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance trainings.  Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent)  in Business, Economics or related field and Master's Degree (or Postgraduate equivalent) .
  • Minimum experience preferred: 12+ Years of 1st line of defense credit underwriting, portfolio management, and risk management experience within the Financial Industry including credit strategy and credit analytics.
  • 5+ years of experience in managing teams of credit analysts, underwriters in the specialty vertical.
  • 5+ years of experience in the direct specialized line of business (Specialized commercial industries, capital markets, corporate commercial banking, etc.)
  • Experience and expertise in credit bureaus, credit decision engines, credit and cash flow modeling for underwriting and portfolio management decisions, income/identity verification and loss forecasting.


Job Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to credit decisions, ensuring compliance in underwriting and portfolio management.
  • For certain LOBs (e.g., Corporate Banking and Specialized Industries), a strong working knowledge of the syndicated loan market and related processes.
  • Proficiency in credit bureaus, credit decision engines, underwriting models, and portfolio management strategies, with experience in income/identity verification and risk assessment.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate credit analysis into actionable strategies and policies for key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to business strategy by incorporating industry knowledge and market trends into credit risk assessments and recommendations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and execute tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills, fostering collaboration, coaching, and professional growth within the credit team.

$168,368.25 - $273,681.00
