Job description

Our Why

Here at Datacom, we connect people and technology in order to solve challenges, create opportunities, and discover new possibilities for the communities we live in.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join Datacom on a fixed term contract through to the end of 2026. This role is based in Melbourne and will suit someone who is confident leading complex technology delivery while also bringing strong agile team facilitation and iteration management capability. The Project Manager role is focused on enabling effective agile delivery for a client-based team. The role supports sprint cadence, team facilitation, backlog health, dependency management, impediment escalation, delivery visibility, and continuous improvement. While the role title is Project Manager, the day-to-day focus is aligned to Iteration Manager responsibilities within a client delivery environment.

What You’ll Do (Your Why)

  • Be seconded to a client site and work onsite three to four days per week, supporting close collaboration with client and delivery teams.
  • Facilitate sprint cadences, including planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, reviews, retrospectives, and other agreed agile ceremonies.
  • Support the team to maintain delivery focus, sprint discipline, and clear alignment to agreed sprint goals.
  • Coordinate and attend programme cadences, including Scrum of Scrums or equivalent forums, to provide visibility of sprint progress, blockers, risks, and dependencies.
  • Manage and escalate dependencies, impediments, and risks that may impact sprint delivery or cross-team outcomes.
  • Support backlog management by working with the team and relevant product or delivery stakeholders to ensure work is prioritised, clear, sized, and ready for delivery.
  • Produce sprint reporting, including progress updates, sprint health, delivery risks, blockers, and key delivery metrics.
  • Track team velocity and use metrics to support forecasting, planning, continuous improvement, and delivery transparency.
  • Coach and support the team in agile ways of working, helping to improve collaboration, communication, delivery flow, and team effectiveness.
  • Facilitate issue resolution and conflict management within the team, escalating where required.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by using retrospectives, feedback loops, and delivery insights to improve team performance over time.

What You’ll Bring

You will be a resilient, adaptable, and delivery-focused Project Manager who can operate effectively in complex technology environments. You will bring strong project leadership, stakeholder management, commercial awareness, and agile delivery capability, with the confidence to work across both structured project governance and iterative team delivery.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing medium to large technology, software, digital, integration, infrastructure, ERP, CRM, EDW, or business change projects.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of project management disciplines, including scope, time, cost, quality, risk, issues, resources, communications, procurement, and stakeholder management.
  • Experience working across agile, staged, waterfall, and hybrid delivery methodologies.
  • Proven ability to build and lead collaborative project teams to achieve business and customer outcomes.
  • Strong financial management capability, including cost estimation, budget tracking, forecasting, and understanding the relationship between cost, utilisation, revenue, and project performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for technical teams, business stakeholders, senior leaders, and customer governance forums.
  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing, negotiation, and customer relationship skills.
  • Experience facilitating sprint ceremonies, managing backlog health, tracking delivery metrics, and supporting agile team cadence.
  • Ability to identify, manage, and escalate risks, issues, dependencies, blockers, and delivery constraints with a solution-focused approach.
  • Experience working with third-party vendors, internal delivery teams, customers, and cross-functional programme stakeholders.
  • High competency in project and agile delivery tools, such as Microsoft Project, Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or equivalent.
  • Strong self-management, organisation, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Project management certification such as PRINCE2, PMI, PMP, or equivalent is desirable.
  • Agile certification such as Professional Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Master, SAFe, or equivalent is desirable.
  • A degree in Business, IT, Engineering, Science, Economics, or a related discipline is desirable but not essential.
