Role Overview

Intelligence, Security and Crisis Management (ISC) delivers geopolitical insight, security risk management, and crisis management across all bp businesses.

This office-based role provides security leadership across a decentralized business with onshore and offshore operations, administrative offices, and heliport activities.

The Security Operations Advisor is a senior leadership role responsible for delivering high-quality Security Risk Management services across the region. The role leads a security team providing specialist advice, ensuring threats to personnel, assets, and operations are identified, assessed, and effectively managed.

The position operates in environments with varied threat levels and significant operational risk and includes opportunities to lead projects and additional workstreams within the ISC Security Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee day-to-day security operations, including physical security, cybersecurity coordination, and contractor security management.
  • Direct the response to security incidents, ensuring adherence to protocols and minimizing business disruption.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of physical security systems, including CCTV, access controls, and related technologies.
  • Manage and develop the security team to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and operational priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies, standards, and procedures through assurance, inspections, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Coordinate and deliver security training programs to maintain operational readiness and professional development.
  • Manage relationships with external security vendors, contractors, and agencies to ensure compliance with bp security standards.
  • Embed consistent, systematic security risk management processes across operations.
  • Provide technical security expertise to develop effective, risk-based security solutions and maintain required barrier strength.
  • Provide operational, tactical, and strategic security guidance to manage operating risk.
  • Deliver management reporting, governance, and oversight of regional security issues.
  • Act as the security representative on emergency and crisis response teams, including during periods of civil unrest, terrorism, or any other operational risk.
  • Conduct security reviews to validate the effectiveness of implemented security measures.
  • Serve as the primary security point of contact for project contractors, ensuring contractual compliance and high-quality service delivery.

Experience and Qualifications

  • University degree in risk management or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Fluent in English; conversational Spanish is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in senior security roles supporting multiple businesses or national critical infrastructure protection.
  • Experience in executive protection planning and execution of high-level events and officials
  • Extensive experience in maritime security risk management at a national level.
  • Strong external network with Government Security Agencies and NGOs.
  • Experience in port security management and ISPS Compliance oversite.
  • Proven experience engaging effectively with senior leadership and influencing security-related decisions.
  • Strong background in developing security policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Experience in budgeting, capital project justification, and project management.
  • Investigation experience (e.g., fraud or misconduct) is an asset.
  • Comfortable operating at sites, regional, and national leadership forums.
