Reporting to the Vice President of Global Data & Tech Sourcing, the Director of Technology Category Management, Mergers, Acquisitions & Divestitures is responsible for managing a team of category/sourcing leads who develop and execute technology category strategies (software, hardware, cloud/SaaS, telecommunications, and data services) and facilitate contract relationships with third-party technology suppliers in support of business priorities. This role owns technology category strategy development and serves as the senior procurement leader for all Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures (MA&D) activities affecting the technology portfolio, including due diligence, synergy identification, and post-transaction integration or separation. This role is also responsible for leading others.
Responsibilities
Leads the sourcing team in developing and executing technology category strategies across software, hardware, cloud/SaaS, telecommunications, and data services, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and cost savings
Owns overall direction for Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures (MA&D) category management activities, serving as the primary procurement lead for technology-related due diligence, synergy identification, contract migration, and post-close integration or separation
Fosters deep stakeholder relationships across IT, Legal, Finance, Corporate Development, and senior leadership, providing regular updates on technology category performance, M&A/divestiture initiatives, and strategic priorities
Provides oversight of technology spend categories (software, cloud infrastructure, hardware, telecom, and data/analytics platforms) to sourcing team members, ensuring effective management and alignment with organizational objectives
Provides guidance on the negotiation of complex technology contracts, including software licensing, SaaS/cloud agreements, master service agreements, and associate-related programs
Directs due diligence, synergy identification, and post-acquisition/divestiture integration of technology vendor contracts, including transition service agreements (TSAs), carve-out planning, and vendor separation activities
Guides the comprehensive analysis of technology category performance metrics, leveraging data-driven insights to identify strategic opportunities and drive continuous improvement
Develops the annual technology category plan and budget, incorporating the active M&A/divestiture pipeline and aligning with organizational goals and priorities
Conducts meetings with managed team regularly to discuss progress, address challenges, and foster collaboration across category management and M&A/divestiture functions
Evaluates the performance of staff periodically, providing constructive feedback and support for professional development
Maintains a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of technology market trends, emerging technologies (e.g., cloud, AI/ML platforms, cybersecurity tools), and vendor capabilities to inform strategic decision-making
Engages with internal stakeholders regularly to provide updates on technology category performance, M&A/divestiture initiatives, and solicit feedback for improvement
Reviews and updates technology category management policies and procedures, including the M&A/divestiture playbook, to ensure alignment with industry best practices and organizational requirements
Identifies opportunities for cost savings and process improvement, driving efficiency and effectiveness in technology procurement operations
Education and Work Experience
Requires relatable professional experience in technology categories (software, cloud/SaaS, hardware, telecom, and data services) within a matrixed environment, including exposure to Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures transactions.
Educational requirements include a minimum of a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, information technology, or finance.
A minimum of seven (7) years' experience, with three (3) of those including supervisory experience.
Preferably ten (10) years working within Technology/Indirect Procurement, with prior involvement in M&A or divestiture-related sourcing activities strongly preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
Strong understanding of technology procurement metrics, trends, and sourcing methodologies (software, cloud/SaaS, hardware, telecom, and data services)
Demonstrated experience supporting Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures, including due diligence, synergy identification, contract migration, and post-close integration or separation of technology vendor relationships
Strong ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to communicate with vendor partners, internal customers, associates, and senior management
Outstanding collaboration skills with a demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional input on key decisions and influence stakeholders to make decisions that maximize organization versus departmental benefits
Thorough knowledge and understanding of business principles, processes, and technology, including software licensing models, cloud/SaaS agreements, and IT service contracts
Strong analytical skills
Outstanding critical thinking skills to evaluate business problems and apply knowledge to identify appropriate solutions and prioritization
Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of computers to operate effectively with PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and Microsoft Outlook
Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to effectively manage multiple projects of various diverse scope in a cross-functional environment, including time-sensitive M&A/divestiture transactions
Experience in managing complex technology contract development, negotiation, and compliance
Demonstrated ability to design and implement processes that achieve business objectives, operational efficiency, and internal control effectiveness
Outstanding leadership and execution skills; proven history of delivering quality results
