Job description

IT Intern – Business Systems & Automation

Bickert Management Inc. (BMI)

Location: Remote
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, aligned with BMI’s Alberta business day (Mountain Time)
Internship arrangement: Paid or unpaid, depending on the candidate, location, applicable requirements, and the final terms agreed before the internship begins

Build real technical capability through real work

Bickert Management Inc. (BMI) is seeking an intelligent, resourceful, and highly coachable IT Intern who wants to develop practical skills in business systems, software customization, workflow automation, and technical problem-solving.

BMI helps organizations improve how they operate by designing, implementing, customizing, and supporting business systems. Much of our work is performed within the Zoho ecosystem and may include application configuration, data structure, workflow design, business process automation, integrations, reporting, troubleshooting, Deluge scripting, and other forms of technical customization.

This is not an internship built around passive observation or academic exercises. The intern will learn in context: first through structured onboarding, guided study, shadowing, and light assignments, and then through increasingly meaningful internal and client work as capability is demonstrated.

The objective is to help a high-potential person develop into a well-rounded BMI technician. The pace of that progression will depend heavily on the intern’s aptitude, initiative, reliability, and ability to convert instruction into productive execution.

What matters most to us

We are more interested in raw capability and character than in conventional credentials.

Formal education, certifications, and years of experience can be useful, but they are not reliable substitutes for intelligence, honesty, resourcefulness, work ethic, sound judgment, and the ability to learn quickly. BMI takes pride in identifying undervalued talent: capable people whose potential may not yet be fully reflected in their résumé, credentials, or previous opportunities.

The strongest candidates will demonstrate:

  • High intellectual aptitude and strong abstract-reasoning ability

  • Resourcefulness when instructions are incomplete or a solution is not immediately obvious

  • Analytical thinking and disciplined problem-solving

  • Honesty, reliability, and personal accountability

  • A strong work ethic and consistent follow-through

  • Coachability and the ability to apply feedback quickly

  • Curiosity and a genuine interest in technology and business systems

  • Adaptability in a software industry that changes rapidly

  • The judgment to ask good questions without becoming dependent on constant direction

  • Careful attention to detail while still understanding the larger objective

What the internship will involve

Early assignments will be selected according to the intern’s current skill level. A new learner may begin with structured training, observation, documentation, testing, data work, simple configurations, and low-risk internal tasks. A candidate who arrives with stronger technical or Zoho experience may progress more quickly into substantive assignments.

Over time, the work may include:

  • Learning the Zoho ecosystem and BMI’s approach to business-systems implementation

  • Shadowing experienced technicians and Client Success Partners

  • Configuring and customizing Zoho applications

  • Supporting data preparation, migration, validation, and cleanup

  • Building and testing workflows, alerts, approvals, and automations

  • Mapping business requirements into practical system behavior

  • Troubleshooting technical and process-related problems

  • Producing clear technical documentation and internal notes

  • Assisting with reports, dashboards, integrations, and quality assurance

  • Learning Deluge scripting and other technical tools used in BMI implementations

  • Completing increasingly complex internal and client assignments as readiness is demonstrated

The balance between learning and execution will change over time. Successful interns are those who steadily require less basic instruction, demonstrate sound judgment, and earn the opportunity to take on more advanced work.

Zoho experience

Previous Zoho experience is not required. BMI is prepared to train a person with the right underlying qualities from the ground up.

However, meaningful experience with Zoho—particularly hands-on experience configuring applications, building automations, working with data, or writing Deluge—will be considered a significant competitive advantage. It may allow a successful candidate to begin at a more advanced level and progress more quickly.

Experience with other CRM, low-code, database, automation, scripting, or business-software platforms is also valuable when it demonstrates transferable reasoning and technical aptitude.

Communication and language

Strong working English is required because the intern must understand instructions, document work clearly, collaborate with BMI team members, and communicate accurately about technical issues.

This is primarily a technical development role, not a client-relationship position. A polished presentation style or accent-free spoken English is not required. The ability to participate effectively in client meetings is an asset and may create additional opportunities, but technical capability, clear internal communication, and dependable execution are more important.

Working hours and remote environment

This is a full-time remote internship requiring 40 hours per week during BMI’s Alberta business day, aligned with Mountain Time and our Calgary head office.

BMI may grant greater scheduling autonomy after a team member has demonstrated reliability and earned that flexibility. Applicants should nevertheless assume that the initial internship will involve defined working hours, active supervision, regular communication, clear priorities, and accountability for assigned work.

Candidates must provide:

  • A dependable computer suitable for professional technical work

  • A stable, high-speed internet connection (>300 Mbps)

  • A quiet and professional remote workspace

  • Reliable availability during the required Mountain Time schedule

  • The ability to participate in video meetings, screen sharing, and remote collaboration

BMI will provide access to the internal systems, learning resources, guidance, and software accounts required for assigned work.

Education and experience

No particular degree, field of study, certification, or minimum number of years of experience is required.

Applicants may include students, recent graduates, self-taught technologists, career changers, or people whose professional history does not yet reflect their full potential. We welcome evidence of ability from personal projects, practical exercises, volunteer work, freelance work, previous employment, or independent learning.

What matters is whether the candidate can demonstrate the aptitude, character, and learning velocity required to become highly effective.

Potential longer-term opportunities

This internship is intended to develop practical capability, but it does not guarantee employment or contract work afterward.

Depending on performance, organizational requirements, and mutual fit, a successful intern may later be considered for hourly employment with BMI or opportunities as a Service Partner. Any future arrangement would be discussed separately and would depend on demonstrated performance and the needs of the business.

About BMI

Bickert Management Inc. is a Canadian executive consulting and business-systems firm headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, with a distributed remote team. We help clients translate business objectives into better processes, better information, and better technology-enabled execution.

Our environment rewards continuous improvement, thoughtful experimentation, accountability, and the ability to adapt. We work in a fast-changing industry and expect team members to keep learning as platforms, tools, and client needs evolve.

How to apply

Please submit a résumé and a brief explanation of why you believe you have the aptitude and personal qualities to succeed in this internship.

Candidates are encouraged to describe examples of:

  • Something technically difficult they taught themselves

  • A situation in which they solved a problem without having complete instructions

  • A project or responsibility that demonstrates reliability and follow-through

  • Any experience with Zoho, CRM systems, databases, workflow automation, scripting, low-code platforms, or related tools

Applicants should be prepared to complete practical assessments designed to evaluate reasoning, learning ability, problem-solving, attention to detail, and technical potential. Selection will not be based solely on résumé credentials or interview presentation.

BMI is committed to evaluating candidates according to their demonstrated capabilities and the requirements of the role.
