Job description

We are exciting to be hiring for a Clinical Risk and Safeguarding Specialist to join our busy and growing team.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of effective clinical risk management and safeguarding governance across Capita’s health assessment and support services. This role will help ensure services are delivered safely, consistently and in line with organisational policy, industry best practice, Government and NHS policy, safeguarding requirements and contractual obligations.

This is a full time home-based role.

Job Description:

What you'll be doing

  • Provide specialist clinical risk and safeguarding support to operational teams and clients, ensuring effective application of clinical governance principles, safeguarding standards and risk management practice.
  • Increase awareness of clinical risk, safeguarding responsibilities and clinical governance across service areas, including supporting training and communication activity.
  • Conduct clinical impact assessments following incidents, safeguarding concerns, change requests and transformation activity, identifying proportionate solutions that minimise clinical and service-user impact.
  • Contribute to clinical risk management, safeguarding and incident management procedures, strategies and continuous improvement activity.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical risk registers, safeguarding records, clinical incident logs and associated preventative and remedial action plans.
  • Co-ordinate and manage professional body and registration requirements for health professionals, providing assurance that colleagues meet their professional body requirements and that relevant contractual sanctions, waivers and escalation processes are followed.
  • Represent Clinical Governance in meetings, forums and initiatives, making independent decisions within approved guidelines and escalating where required.
  • Support delivery of clinical governance strategic and business-as-usual activity, with a focus on clinical risk, safeguarding, incident learning and continuous improvement.

What we're looking for :

Essential :

  • Experienced UK registered Health Professional with a minimum of two years’ post-registration experience and current, unrestricted professional registration with the GMC, NMC or HCPC.
  • Awareness of Clinical Governance and the seven pillars, including their function within a regulated service environment.
  • Level 4 Child and/or Adult Safeguarding training, or equivalent demonstrable safeguarding competence.
  • Detailed knowledge or demonstrable understanding of clinical assessment, healthcare service delivery, safeguarding, clinical risk management or regulated service processes.

Desirable :

  • In-depth understanding of the clinical, operational, social and cultural factors that can affect health assessment, support services and service-user experience.
  • Experience making difficult decisions under pressure.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and continued professional registration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.

About HAAS

The Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS) arranges and carries out assessments for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Department for Communities (DfC).

The purpose of the assessment is to understand how an illness or disability affects a person’s daily life. After the assessment, the DWP/DfC makes the decision as to whether the individual will receive any benefits.

The Health Assessment Advisory Service is delivered on behalf of the DWP & DfC by Capita.
