Position Summary
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, medication management, and clinical oversight services within an integrated behavioral health setting. The PMHNP serves as a key member of the Behavioral Health team by delivering direct patient care, providing clinical consultation and staffing support, overseeing care management activities, completing disability-related documentation, and collaborating with primary care and behavioral health leadership to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
 
*This position will transition to a remote work arrangement following the completion of training; however, all candidates must reside in Arizona to be considered.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and risk assessments.
  • Diagnose and treat mental health and substance use disorders utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans.
  • Prescribe, adjust, and manage psychiatric medications in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Provide ongoing medication management and psychiatric follow-up care.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, and recovery goals.
  • Identify patients requiring higher levels of care and facilitate referrals as appropriate.
Clinical Collaboration & Oversight
  • Provide clinical oversight and consultation to Behavioral Health Care Managers and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Participate in regular clinical staffing and case review meetings to support treatment planning and care coordination.
  • Collaborate with Primary Care Providers (PCPs), therapists, care managers, and medical leadership to ensure integrated, patient-centered care.
  • Assist with development and implementation of clinical protocols, workflows, and best practices.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and outcome measurement activities.
  • Review complex behavioral health cases and provide recommendations regarding diagnosis, treatment, and level of care.
Documentation & Administrative Responsibilities
  • Complete and review FMLA, Short-Term Disability (STD), return-to-work, reasonable accommodation, and other behavioral health-related clinical documentation as appropriate.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, state regulations, professional standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in audits, quality reviews, and performance improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the applicable state.
  • Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
  • Current DEA registration and prescribing authority.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of psychiatric clinical experience preferred.
  • Experience providing psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management.
  • Experience working within integrated care, outpatient behavioral health, collaborative care, or primary care settings preferred.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR); eClinicalWorks experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of psychiatric disorders, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based treatment practices.
  • Strong clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to provide clinical oversight and support to multidisciplinary care teams.
  • Experience completing FMLA, disability, and other behavioral health-related medical documentation.
  • Ability to effectively lead clinical staffing discussions and case consultations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
