ABOUT US

Generation Citizen offers tools for the rising generation to build civic skills and make America the inclusive, multi-racial democracy that we need. We are transforming how civics is taught by providing equity-rooted, real-world civic education that helps students understand how governments function and how they can make a difference in the system. Through hands-on civic education, legislative advocacy, coalition-building, and youth leadership development, we teach young people to have a voice and become active citizens in their communities.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Generation Citizen is looking for a collaborative Chief of Staff to partner with our CEO as we scale our impact. Our goal is a democracy where all young people have the power to create real change. Through community-based civic education, research, and coalition building, we help young people build civic skills, knowledge, and power. Now that we have expanded our programs and partnerships, we need to bring our national and regional teams together into a strong, cohesive network.

To succeed, you’ll need to be a skilled facilitator and systems-thinker who can manage cross-functional processes to keep teams on track and hold us accountable to our goals. You should be comfortable balancing data and process with the need for innovation and equity. If you have a track record of leading for results, guiding teams through growth, and turning big ideas into clear, actionable plans, we want you on our team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership, Organizational Accountability, & Internal Communication

  • Support Crossteam Execution: Work collaboratively across the Management Team to resolve and/or mitigate operational and strategic issues that impede the success of priority goals; respond to questions; and act as a strategic observer and the primary point of contact for the CEO, ensuring time and attention are focused on high-leverage organizational priorities.
  • Annual Goal Accountability & Execution: Drive organizational performance by establishing systems for tracking, monitoring, and holding teams accountable for progress toward annual goals and strategic priorities.
  • Internal Leadership Development: Support internal leadership development by partnering with the Talent team to support professional development, facilitate cross-functional leadership development, and build leadership capacity.
  • Leadership Team Management: Manage Leadership Team meetings and alignment by creating a forward-looking calendar, shaping meeting content with Executive Directors, and designing and facilitating systems for clear, continuous communication between meetings. Plan, facilitate, and maintain the contents and outcomes of Leadership Team meetings.
  • Accountability & Workflow Systems: Improve systems to foster organizational accountability by working with the Program & Impact Team on goal check-ins, stepbacks, and cross-team collaboration frameworks, and by developing and executing a multi-channel internal communication strategy.
  • Culture & Alignment: Foster a culture of belonging, transparency, and excellence throughout the organization. Lead on planning thoughtful internal organizational communications that align national and regional teams around shared goals.
  • Project Management & Initiative Support:  Oversee special projects that require cross-functional collaboration and resource allocation. Provide tactical support to implement new strategic initiatives, including leading project kickoff meetings and tracking timelines for internal and external projects on the CEO’s behalf to ensure deadlines are met and goals are achieved.
  • Peer-Level Thought Partnership: Serve as a confidential sounding board and thought partner to the CEO, stress-testing ideas and providing objective, candid feedback to sharpen decision-making.

Executive Governance & Strategic Operations

  • Board Governance Support: Lead the preparation and strategic framing for Board and Leadership meetings to ensure alignment and decision-ready discussions.
  • Board Communications & Calendar: Own the strategic cadence of Board and Committee interactions, ensuring timely delivery of high-impact materials and decision-ready agendas.
  • Executive Office Effectiveness: Manage PT Executive Assistant and ensure administrative activities proceed consistently and effectively.
  • Leadership Retreats: Provide leadership for virtual and in-person leadership retreats and meetings in partnership with the Leadership Team and Talent Team.
  • External Representation: Represent Generation Citizen at selected meetings, convenings, and events as delegated by the CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
