Job description

Description

About Us

At Gifthealth, we're revolutionizing the way people experience healthcare by simplifying the process of managing prescriptions and health services. Our mission is to provide a seamless, personalized, and efficient healthcare experience for all our customers. We're a dynamic, innovative, and customer-centric company dedicated to making a positive impact on people's lives.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Data Engineer II to build and maintain the pipelines, models, and orchestration jobs that power Gifthealth's analytics and client reporting. This position plays a key role in supporting the Data Engineering team and the broader Analytics organization, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, operational excellence, and compliance standards.

This is a hands-on delivery role: the Data Engineer II owns well-scoped projects end to end, from requirements through production, and raises questions early when a problem is bigger than it first looked. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of data engineering experience, strong SQL and Python skills, working fluency with dbt and a modern orchestrator, and the judgment to know when to solve independently and when to pull in a senior engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and maintain production data pipelines and dbt models with limited day-to-day direction
  • Own delivery of scoped projects end to end, including requirements clarification, implementation, testing, documentation, and handoff
  • Write and maintain orchestration jobs; monitor pipeline health, triage failures, and resolve or escalate production issues
  • Participate actively in code review, both giving and receiving feedback, and apply the team's technical standards consistently
  • Partner with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to translate reporting and data needs into durable models
  • Contribute to team standards, documentation, and tooling improvements
  • Ensure compliance and confidentiality of Personal Health Information across all data

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or other quantitative field, and relevant work experience as a Data Engineer
  • Licensure/Certification: Not applicable
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a closely related data role.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, including performance-aware query writing
    • Hands-on experience with Airflow or a comparable orchestrator, including building and debugging scheduled jobs
    • Working experience with dbt and a modern cloud data warehouse
    • Familiarity with Git-based workflows, CI/CD, and automated testing
    • Exposure to AWS and managed ingestion tools such as Fivetran; Ruby experience is a plus
    • Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain data work to non-technical partners and document your own decisions
    • Comfort working through ambiguity, asking clarifying questions, and driving work to completion
    • An excitement about what data can do for healthcare and patients

Work Environment

  • Location: Remote
  • Schedule: Full-time
  • May require occasional availability outside standard hours to triage production issues or support releases.
  • Regular meetings with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment.

Key Essential Functions

  • Must be able to use a computer for extended periods to build and maintain data pipelines
  • Must be able to participate in virtual and in-person meetings, including code reviews and cross-functional planning
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must maintain compliance with data privacy and confidentiality requirements, including safeguarding Personal Health Information (PHI)
