Description

Position at United Veterinary Care

At United Veterinary Care (UVC), technology plays a vital role in empowering our hospitals to deliver exceptional patient care and operational excellence. We are seeking a strategic and collaborative Director of Practice Management Solutions to lead the vision, delivery, and ongoing optimization of our veterinary practice management systems. You will play a key role in driving UVC's transition from legacy platforms to a standardized technology ecosystem while ensuring the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of the applications and integrations that support our hospital operations. Partnering closely with Operations, Clinical Leadership, hospital teams, Infrastructure, Learning & Development, and external vendors, you will champion platform strategy, successful implementations, vendor relationships, issue resolution, and user adoption across our growing network of hospitals. This is primarily a remote position with 20-30% travel.

What You'll Do:

  • Maintain and execute the practice management application strategy and roadmap under the guidance of IT and business leadership.
  • Lead internal work for practice management system conversions, including hospital sequencing, readiness, risk management, go-live support, and post-go-live stabilization.
  • Establish clear technology-readiness requirements for each hospital and confirm that required hardware, endpoints, peripherals, connectivity, access, and integrations are completed before implementation begins.
  • Coordinate with internal technology teams and external service partners to ensure technical work is clearly assigned, completed, and validated.
  • Work with Operations to establish a shared support model for hospital conversions and other major practice management initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary IT liaison for practice management systems and related operational issues.
  • Partner with Operations, Clinical Leadership, Learning and Development, and hospital leaders to understand workflow impacts, training needs, adoption risks, and business readiness.
  • Manage relationships with software vendors and implementation partners, including project commitments, service performance, open issues, timelines, responsibilities, and escalations.
  • Provide oversight for current practice management systems and support the continued simplification of the application portfolio.
  • Lead the lifecycle of practice management systems from evaluation and implementation through support, optimization, consolidation, and retirement.
  • Coordinate system testing and business sign-off for upgrades, integrations, interfaces, and material system changes.
  • Review requests for enhancements and new capabilities and make recommendations based on operational value, risk, scalability, and business priorities.
  • Maintain current documentation for systems, integrations, support processes, decisions, and hospital-specific requirements.
  • Establish cross-training and backup coverage for critical practice management responsibilities to support continuity and scalable operations.
  • Provide regular status updates, risk summaries, and decision requests to IT and business leadership.
  • Support security, disaster recovery, and business continuity requirements related to practice management systems.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Veterinary Science, Healthcare Administration, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of experience supporting, implementing, or managing practice management, healthcare, or other operationally critical business applications.
  • Experience with veterinary practice operations, veterinary technology, multi-site healthcare operating environment.
  • Experience leading multi-location system implementations, conversions, or enterprise application rollouts.
  • Strong understanding of hospital workflows, practice management systems, integrations, endpoints, and local infrastructure.
  • Experience working with software vendors, implementation partners, managed service providers, and cross-functional internal teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage difficult conversations.
  • Working knowledge of application integrations, data conversion, interfaces, testing, change management, and system lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with data privacy, document retention, payment-card security, and other compliance requirements affecting veterinary practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20-30% for visits to veterinary hospitals to support selected implementations, planning sessions, and key operational events.
