Job description

Title: SAP BASIS Specialist
Location: Sacramento, CA (Remote)
Duration: 960 hours


Client is seeking a highly experienced SAP BASIS Specialist contractor to provide advanced technical support and architecture design for our enterprise SAP solutions. The supported environments include ECC, CRM, BW, BusinessObjects (BOBJ), Process Orchestration (PO), Web Dispatcher, Fiori, C/4 HANA, SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) – SAP Cloud Platform Integration (CPI), SuccessFactors, and others. The contractor will be responsible for the administration and ongoing support of the SAP ecosystem, including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, system refreshes, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The SAP BASIS Specialist will work closely with SMUD teams to ensure a stable, scalable, and reliable enterprise computing environment.

Key responsibilities and deliverables include:
• Provide operation support for the SAP ecosystem
• Provide 24/7 on-call and after-hours support, as required.
• Lead primary SAP BASIS administration for major enterprise applications.
• Provide secondary administration support for other enterprise applications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, acting as the primary point of contact.
• Work closely with SMUD analysts and technical teams to resolve system outages or performance issues.
• Schedule and coordinate SAP system installs, upgrades, patches, backups, and restorations.
• Perform OS, application, database, and client tool patching and migrations.
• Fully test patches in non-production environments before deployment; evaluate and install software patches as needed.
• Configure systems and applications technically, ensuring alignment with SMUD standards.
• Ensure application availability per Service Level Agreements.
• Perform system sizing and capacity planning.
• Act as vendor liaison for bug fixes, and maintenance.
• Report to SMUD management with status updates, issues, and progress.
• Interface with business units and application users for support and troubleshooting.
• Install new application releases and version upgrades.
• Support, monitor, test, and troubleshoot hardware and software issues as related to SAP platform.
• Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and inventories for SAP system administration, including architecture, backup policies, and user management.
• Provide desktop support and coordinate or deliver user training as needed.
• Evaluate software and hardware and provide technical recommendations.
• Automate tasks and streamline administrative processes in collaboration with IT and support teams.
• Coordinate application support with other SMUD resources (security, network, operations, application development).
• Configure, maintain, and monitor batch jobs and scripts; resolve related errors.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation.
• Maintain fault tolerance and disaster recovery plans for SAP systems.

Mandatory Requirements:
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible IT experience in administration SAP BASIS, with similar setup as SMUD.
• Strong understanding and hands-on experience in the administration of SAP enterprise solutions, including installation, configuration, patching, troubleshooting, documentation, and coordination.
• In-depth knowledge of SAP system design, configuration, and functionality.
• Hands-on experience on AIX, UNIX, Linux, Windows, DB2 and MSsql SAP ECC6, S/4 HANA, BW/BI, CRM, BOBJ, PO, BPC, HANA, C/4 HANA, SAP BTP, SuccessFactors, Cloud Connector, Fiori/Gateway, web dispatcher.
• Experience on Solution Manager and SAP Cloud ALM

Desirable Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, or related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience.
• Five (5) years as SAP BASIS supporting SAP ABAP and JAVA systems.
• Expert use of Solution Manager for monitoring and project documentation.
• Proficiency in SAP system refresh processes (native SAP and tools such as LAMA, SAP PCA).
• Administration experience for NetWeaver Java solutions (Adobe Document Services, PO, Web Dispatcher, SLD).
• Experience with SAP change management (CTS+, non-ABAP and cloud solutions).
• SAP system administration in DB2/AIX, RHEL environments.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
• System uptime and availability
• Response time to critical incidents.
• Completion of scheduled maintenance and upgrades.
• Documentation completeness and accuracy.
• Timely resolution of batch job errors.
• Successful completion of disaster recovery drills.

Assumptions:
• Contractors must have reliable internet, work exclusively within the United States.
• Contractors must be available for any meetings generally scheduled between the hours 8AM and 5PM Pacific Standard Time.
• The contractor is expected to be 100% remote
