Job description

Position Summary:

The Senior Training Instructor will be responsible for preparing and delivering technical, skill-based training across MEI Rigging & Crating’s workforce, including new hires, apprenticeship program participants, and incumbent employees. This role supports organization-wide initiatives by coordinating the MEI Apprenticeship Training Program and managing related activities such as team member mentorship, field coaching, on-the-job training (OJT), Best Known Methods (BKMs), and candidate evaluations. The Training Instructor will collaborate with the Training and Development Director, Talent Development Managers, Training Specialists, and other organizational leaders to design and implement effective training solutions. They will play a pivotal role in identifying and addressing company-wide training requirements and development opportunities.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    Lead Apprenticeship Program Curriculum Development/Revision via needs assessments, curriculum design, instructional material development, assessment/evaluations, program revisions, and delivery optimization

    Lead Apprenticeship Program Course Delivery and Presentation via public speaking, logistics/scheduling, collaboration, reliability, continuous improvement, supporting KPIs, and alignment with MEI’s values of safety, integrity, and excellence.

    Drive Organizational Training Projects: Oversee and manage training initiatives that address company-wide needs and monitor their effectiveness, making adjustments as necessary.

    Support Skill Development: Manage skill development initiatives for employees at all levels, including evaluating candidates’ qualifications and commitment to participating in programs such as Entry-Level Driver Training.

    Collaborate with the Director of Training and Development, Talent Development Managers, Training Specialists, Regional Office Training Instructors, and other organizational leaders to design and implement effective training solutions. 

    Conduct Gap Analyses: Perform skill and knowledge assessments to identify development opportunities and align employees with appropriate training pathways.

    Develop and Deliver Training Materials: Obtain or create training resources and presentations, including technical content. Facilitate training sessions for individuals or groups across multiple locations.

    Track and Maintain Training Records: Maintain a centralized system of training records for the organization, ensuring compliance with audit and regulatory standards.

    Evaluate Training Effectiveness: Monitor and report on participant progress, milestones, and successes, and assess overall program effectiveness in meeting organizational goals.

    Stay Current as an SME: Attend industry trade shows, seminars, and continuing education opportunities to maintain subject matter expertise relevant to the organization’s operations.

    Support Recruitment Efforts: Evaluate and interview new hires to assess their potential for success in training programs and alignment with organizational needs.

    Position reports to Director of Training and Development and will require travel to regional offices, anticipate up to 50%.


Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education):

    High school diploma or equivalent necessary. Higher degree (Bachelor) in Education, Training, Human Resources, Industrial Education, or related field helpful.

   Ten (10) years of experience as an advanced level Rigger, Machinery Mover, Construction Rigger, or similar role.

    Be knowledgeable in or have experience with DOT regulations and CDL training programs and requirements.

    Experience managing training programs and curriculums, including short-duration and long- duration learning. Maintain current and relative materials, topics, and records for training.

    Proficient with MS Office, including PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel, and use of a Windows- based operating system.

    Strong organization and planning skills; possess adaptability and flexibility considerations; and a customer-focused mindset.

    Ability to convey complex or technical information and concepts across all levels of staff and understanding; interpret and explain information meaning and uses to others.

    Excellent oral and written communication skills; comfortable with in-person instruction delivered to groups or crowds of various size.

    Possess a good understanding of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words. Keep accurate and legible records, in English.

    Demonstrates active listening skills and critical thinking skills. Interacts with others professionally and positively; can follow direction and is receptive to constructive feedback.

    Must be self-directed and self-motivated; able to manage own time efficiently and encourages this with others.

    Ability to analyze information, make determinations, problem-solve, and positively influence others.

    Bilingual in English / Spanish helpful but not necessary.

    Possess a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and is willing and able to travel locally between regional offices on a frequent basis.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 

Most work is in a normal indoor, climate-controlled environment. The Senior Training Instructor will stand frequently (at times for long durations), sit frequently, utilize senses involving sight, touch, and audio; will use speech and verbal communication skills. Will work with mouse, keyboard, and general office equipment. Occasional work in a non-climate-controlled environment, outdoors, or on uneven terrain. May lift and/or move items weighing 20+ pounds.
