Job description

Salary:  $115,000 - $125,000

Compass Technology is a dedicated internal team for Compass Group delivering enterprise-wide initiatives that support our diverse customer base and enhance our business operations. Our domain encompasses a vast spectrum of opportunities, from hands-on desk support to Cybersecurity, Cloud Engineering, AI, and Modern Application development. We are committed to building robust IT infrastructures, driving digital transformation, and much more.

About the Role

Compass Group is building the next generation of enterprise Product Master Data Management through our MDM TrueData platform. We are seeking an experienced Lead Product Data Steward to establish and lead our product data stewardship capabilities while helping shape how stewardship is performed across the enterprise.

This is not a traditional data stewardship role focused solely on maintaining data quality. You will play a key role in building our stewardship function from the ground up by partnering with Product Management, Engineering, and business stakeholders to define governance processes, improve business workflows, and ensure the TrueData platform delivers an intuitive and efficient stewardship experience.

During the initial implementation of MDM TrueData, you will actively perform stewardship activities while helping define the processes, workflows, and user experiences that will support the long-term success of the platform. As our stewardship organization grows, your focus will evolve toward stewardship leadership, governance, process optimization, and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do

Lead Product Data Stewardship

  • Perform and lead stewardship activities supporting Compass's enterprise Product Master Data domain.
  • Review, maintain, and validate product master data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Resolve data quality issues through research, analysis, and collaboration with business stakeholders.
  • Execute and oversee product matching, merging, attribute maintenance, and exception resolution.
  • Ensure stewardship activities align with established governance standards and business priorities.

Build the Future of Product Stewardship

  • Develop stewardship standards, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Define stewardship roles, responsibilities, and best practices.
  • Recommend opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and AI-assisted stewardship.
  • Establish stewardship KPIs, operational metrics, and service level expectations.
  • Drive continuous improvement across stewardship processes.

Partner on Stewardship Solutions

  • Serve as the primary business representative for stewardship capabilities within the TrueData platform.
  • Partner with Product Management, UX, and Engineering to define business requirements for stewardship functionality.
  • Validate workflows, business processes, and user experiences.
  • Provide feedback on prototypes and new capabilities throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify stewardship activities and reduce manual effort.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing and release readiness activities.

Drive Data Quality Excellence

  • Monitor and improve data quality across the product lifecycle.
  • Develop quality metrics and dashboards.
  • Identify root causes of recurring data issues and recommend sustainable improvements.
  • Support governance initiatives related to data quality, duplicate prevention, and data standards.

Collaborate Across the Business

  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Data Modeling, business stakeholders, source data teams and downstream application teams.
  • Build strong partnerships to ensure trusted product information supports enterprise business capabilities.

Enable Adoption

  • Develop stewardship documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Create training materials and support onboarding of future stewards.
  • Assist with organizational change management related to new stewardship capabilities.
  • Promote adoption of governance standards and stewardship best practices.

What Makes This Role Unique

This role offers a rare opportunity to build an enterprise product stewardship capability from the ground up. Initially, you'll work directly within the stewardship process, gaining firsthand experience managing product master data while helping launch the TrueData platform. Those experiences will directly influence how stewardship workflows, business processes, and user experiences are designed.

As the platform matures and additional stewardship resources are added, you'll transition from primarily executing stewardship activities to leading the stewardship function, improving business processes, and driving continuous innovation across the enterprise.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Master Data Management, Data Governance, Data Stewardship, Product Information Management, or related disciplines.
  • Experience stewarding Product, Vendor, Customer, or other enterprise master data domains.
  • Experience improving business processes and operational workflows.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience collaborating with technical teams to implement business solutions.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MDM platforms such as Informatica, Profisee, Reltio, Stibo, Semarchy, SAP MDG, Syndigo, or Ataccama.
  • Experience with Product Information Management (PIM), GS1, GDSN, Agile delivery, SQL, Snowflake, Power BI, workflow design, and AI-assisted data management.

Success In This Role

  • Establish Compass's enterprise product stewardship function.
  • Improve product data quality and governance.
  • Partner with Product Management and Engineering to deliver intuitive stewardship capabilities within TrueData.
  • Design scalable stewardship processes that support future business growth.
  • Reduce manual effort through workflow improvements, automation, and process optimization.

Why Compass Group?

Join a team building the enterprise foundation for trusted product information across one of the world's largest foodservice organizations. Your work will directly impact procurement, nutrition, allergens, menu management, reporting, and many downstream business capabilities.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing hands-on stewardship with strategic process improvement. You'll begin by actively participating in stewardship activities to understand the day-to-day challenges of managing enterprise product data, then use those insights to help shape the future of the MDM TrueData platform and build a scalable stewardship function for Compass Group.
