Role level : Senior technical sales / applications leadership; 15+ years experience

Primary focus : Customer solution development, technical positioning, application support, and team leadership

Industry coverage: Biopharma, biotech, vaccines, biologicals, CDMOs, and sterile injectable pharmaceutical manufacturing

Regulated-market exposure: US FDA, EMA, MHRA, PMDA, and other ICH-regulated markets

The Opportunity

Avantor Fluid Handling (AFH) offers customized Single-Use Solutions that cater to the unique needs of biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical manufacturers throughout the process workflow. Our solutions include single-use assemblies, fluid handling systems, and associated hardware designed to support critical manufacturing operations.

The role of an Applications / Technical Sales Manager is pivotal in creating impactful solutions for our customers. With deep process knowledge, technical expertise, and commercial acumen, the individual will lead a team of Application Specialists and deliver innovative solutions that address the unique application needs of clients across biopharmaceutical, vaccine, biological, and sterile injectable pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.

What We're Looking For

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences such as Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biopharmaceutical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines.

Experience

  • 15+ years of industry experience in Biopharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, Vaccines, Biologicals, and/or Sterile Pharmaceutical Manufacturing.

  • Strong knowledge across bioprocessing and pharmaceutical manufacturing workflows, including upstream processing, downstream processing, formulation, buffer/media preparation, sterile manufacturing, and fill-finish operations.

  • Experience working with external customers within the Biotech, Biologicals, Life Sciences, Vaccine, and/or Injectable Pharmaceutical industries.

  • Experience supporting customers supplying products to highly regulated markets such as the United States, Europe, Japan, and other ICH-regulated regions.

  • Strong understanding of customer manufacturing processes, technical challenges, material requirements, and evolving industry expectations.

Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements applicable to single-use technologies used in biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

  • Working knowledge of Extractables & Leachables (E&L), supplier qualification programs, GMP/cGMP expectations, change control, quality risk management, sterility assurance, contamination control, validation requirements, and regulatory expectations from US FDA, EMA, MHRA, PMDA, and other global agencies.

  • Awareness of BPOG Single-Use guidance and USP / ISO standards relevant to single-use systems, fluid contact materials, sterilization, biocompatibility, and particulate control.

  • A Subject Matter Expert (SME) who partners closely with commercial teams, product managers, quality teams, and R&D scientists to achieve business objectives.

  • Possess deep understanding of bioprocessing workflows and/or sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.

  • Strong understanding of customer technical challenges, process requirements, material requirements, and regulatory expectations.

  • Capable of engaging effectively with stakeholders across Process Development, Manufacturing, Engineering, Validation, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, and Procurement.

  • Demonstrated project management and execution skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple technical engagements and strategic opportunities.

  • Able to develop and maintain strong technical relationships with targeted key accounts.

  • Passionate about driving innovation and continuously improving AFH products, solutions, and service offerings.

  • Possess strong knowledge of regulatory expectations associated with single-use assemblies, fluid handling systems, and critical process components used in regulated manufacturing environments.

  • Contribute to the technical positioning of AFH products within customer manufacturing processes and influence strategic decision-making.

  • Improve the quality, competitiveness, and value proposition of AFH products and service offerings.

  • Gather, compile, and analyze Voice of Customer (VOC) insights to identify unmet needs and create differentiated solutions.

  • Develop a deep understanding of the competitive landscape and emerging market trends to guide future product and service development.

  • Stay current with industry, technology, and regulatory developments and communicate insights across the organization.

  • Support local and global sales processes, strategic account management initiatives, and business growth objectives.

  • Build and maintain strong technical relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers within strategic customer accounts.

  • Provide technical and regulatory guidance regarding implementation, qualification, validation, and lifecycle management of single-use systems.

  • Support customer discussions related to supplier qualification, extractables and leachables assessments, contamination control strategies, particulate risk management, sterilization validation, and change management processes.

  • Collaborate with Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Product Management, Operations, and R&D teams to ensure AFH solutions align with current and evolving regulations and standards.

  • Participate in customer audits, technical reviews, product evaluations, and qualification activities as required.

  • Support both biopharmaceutical and sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing customers in achieving compliance, operational excellence, and process optimization.

Preferred Industry Experience

Candidates with experience supporting leading biopharmaceutical, vaccine, CDMO, biologics, and sterile injectable pharmaceutical manufacturers supplying regulated markets such as US FDA, EMA, MHRA, PMDA, and other ICH-regulated regions will be highly preferred.
