Join us as our Principal Platform Engineer / Lead Architect (m/f/d) in the Imaging Platform Engineering Team at Dedalus, one of the World’s leading healthcare technology companies, in Austria or in Germany (Home office possible) to do the best work of your career and make a profound impact in providing better care for a healthier planet.
As Principal Platform Engineer / Lead Architect, you will be a senior technical authority for the platform used to deploy and operate our solutions across customer, hybrid, and cloud environments. You will combine architecture ownership with hands-on engineering, guide application teams, and ensure that the platform remains secure, scalable, maintainable, and operationally robust. You will turn complex product, service, and operational requirements into clear technical direction and sustainable platform capabilities.
Your tasks:
Own and evolve the technical architecture of the deployment and runtime platform for customer and cloud installations
Define architectural principles, standards, patterns, and guardrails for platform components and application integrations
Translate product, service, security, and operational requirements into sustainable technical concepts and implementation strategies
Contribute hands-on to platform components, automation, tooling, deployment mechanisms, and integration patterns
Guide application teams in integrating their services coherently into the overall platform architecture
Ensure compliance with quality, security, scalability, maintainability, and serviceability requirements
Conduct architecture, design, and code reviews for critical platform and integration topics
Lead technical alignment across development, DevOps, service, security, product management, and architecture stakeholders
Mentor senior engineers and strengthen engineering practices through knowledge sharing, workshops, and internal training
Evaluate new technologies, lead proof-of-concepts, and drive their responsible introduction into the existing system landscape
Several years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or solution architecture
Experience owning or significantly shaping the architecture of complex, distributed, or enterprise software platforms
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes-based environments, container platforms, and modern deployment architectures
Solid working knowledge of distributed systems, Linux, networking, and automation
Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and release or deployment automation
How You Work:
You translate complex product, service, and operational requirements into clear technical direction
You contribute to architecture, design, and code reviews, and help assess technical risk
You mentor and guide engineers, sharing knowledge through reviews, workshops, and pairing
You communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
You take a structured, pragmatic, and solution-oriented approach, and stay effective in complex or high-pressure situations
Desirable Requirements:
Experience in healthcare IT, medical imaging, PACS/RIS/VNA, clinical workflows, or another regulated software environment
Experience with both on-premises enterprise deployments and cloud or SaaS architectures
Hands-on knowledge of identity and access management, service meshes, observability stacks, and database platforms
Familiarity with security, compliance, and operational requirements in healthcare environments
Experience with large-scale platform modernization or product transformation initiatives
Deep understanding of quality attributes such as availability, scalability, security, operability, maintainability, and performance
Experience conducting formal architecture reviews, design reviews, and technical risk assessments
For Austria only: The minimum salary for this position is € 55.400,-- gross per year (38.5 working hours) according to the IT-collective agreement in Austria, an overpayment plus bonus arrangement depending on qualification/experience is self-evident for us
